Stokes Repeats as Lancers Set Marks at Wesleyan Winter Invite

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Indoor Track and Field team returned to action after a dominating meet last weekend that saw the first years taken numerous top spots. The Lancers looked to continue the success today at the Wesleyan Winter Invite as they closed out their 2023 Indoor Meet schedule. The Lancers were in dominant force once again as first year Jadah Stokes (Savannah, GA) again claimed top spots on the day. 

 

For the second meet in a row Stokes swept the weight throw and shot put putting up a distance of 14.46m in the weight throw and 11.39m in the shot put to grab first place in both events. Senior Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA) was keeping pace with Stokes as she went for 10.55m in the shot put, which was good enough for 5th place, while throwing for 8.67m in the weight throw for 11th. First year Luana Grau-Moura up the anty from last week grabbing 9th in the shot put with a distance of 8.99m and 9.45m in the weight throw for 8th. Sophomore Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA) went for 8.95m in the shot for 10th while also grabbing 13th in the weight throw with a distance of  7.20m. First year Gianna Noyes (Uxbridge, MA) only competed in the weight throw this meet, recording a 9.03m that was perfectly placed for 10th. 

 

Jumping events could not be ignored today as first year Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA) cleared 1.45m for the 4th place in the high jump, along with fellow first year Alexis Strong (Southington, CT) who measured for 1.35m for a 6th place finish. Condike would also put her jumps to good use in the 60m hurdles crossing in 10.98 for 6th. The first years kept up the success in the pole vault as Carlie Cronin reached 2.40m which found her sitting in 4th at the end of the day.  The action in the jumping pit did not slow down at all as first year Cira Adu-Addo (Worcester, MA) would mark a 5.14m in the long jump that had her sitting in 3rd. Just behind her Strong would record a 4.83m for fourth place. Senior Eryca Lopes (Ayer, MA) would do double duty; she claimed 7th with a 4.72m in the long jump and then landed a 9.98m for 2nd in the triple jump. 

 

On the track Adu-Addo continued her success, this time jumping up one place from last week as she claimed 7th in the 60m with a time of 8.35s. While a slate of Lancers racers would find finishes in the 200m and 400m races. Junior Caroline Gilson (Grafton, MA) would claim the 5th spot in the 400m with a time of 66.18 seconds while also finishing 13th in the 200m would a brisk 28.96 seconds. First year Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, MA) would nab the 9th place spot in the 400m with a 68.11seconds while additionally doing double duty in the 200m with a 29.16 second time for 16th.  Sophomores Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) and Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) would also join the double duty on the track with O'Malley crossing in a time of 68.41 in the 400 for 10th and 29.97 in the 200m for 20th. Condon came in at a time of 70.24 for 13th in the 400m and finished up her day with a 31.19 in the 200m for 29th. First years Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA) and Meg Driscoll (Mansfield, MA) would be the lone singles of the quick spring group with a 29.11 seconds in the 200m for 15th for Driscoll and 31.65 for 33rd for Guinto.

 

On the distance side, sophomore Leah Berg would hit the mile time under six minutes, crossing at 5:54.94 for 9th at the meet as fellow sophomore Claudia Symoick (Auburn, MA) would finish the 3,000m in 13:41.83 for 11th.

The Lancers have closed out the 2023 portion of their indoor season and return to action on January 20th to begin the 2024 cycle of meets as they bid NCAA qualifications.
