Lancers Youth Shines at Massasoit Classic

Worcester, MA- After over a month away from competition, the Worcester State Lancers were back with a presence at the Massasoit Classic hosted by Springfield College. First year Jadah Stokes (Savanna, GA) continued her success in the field as sophomore Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) made waves on the track. As a team, Worcester State recorded 53.50 points for a 5th place finish at the meet. 

 

The Lancers were a force to be reckoned with in the field events in Springfield as Stokes grabbed the top spot in the shot put with a mark of 11.88m. Her success continued in the weight throw, where she finished fifth with a mark of 12.79m. Joining Stokes in double showings was senior Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA), sophomore Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA), and first years Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA) and Gianna Noyes (Uxbridge, MA). Moreau recorded a sixth place finish, with a distance of 10.23m, in the shot while grabbing 10th with a mark of 9.35m in the weight while Piccolo also finished in the top 10, with a 9th place mark, in the shot put, going for 9.09m and 13th in the weight with a distance of 8.39m. Noyes would grab an 8th place finish in the weight throw with a measurement at 10.32m and 16th in the shot, going 7.37m. Grau-Moura would finish in 9th in the weight throw with her mark of 9.83m and rounded out her day with a 12th place marker at 8.44m in the shot put.

 

Worcester State was not just successful in their throws, but in the jumping pit as well as first year Ciara Adu-Addo (Worcester, MA) would claim third in the long jump with a 4.99m measurement as fellow first year Alexis Strong (Southington, CT) would nab fourth with a 4.94m landing. Eryca Lopes would round out the long jump with a 13th place leap at 4.13m and would be the lone entrent in the triple jump, claiming 8th with a 9.48m mark. On the high jump side, first year Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA) would jump for 1.46m to finish in fourth place in the event. 

 

On the track side Adu-Addo found continued success, crossing in seventh place, in 8.39 seconds, in the 60m along with fellow long jump partner Strong who was just behind in 8th at a time of 8.57 seconds. First year Meg Driscoll would make her presence known in the 200m crossing in 14th place in a time of 29.73, close on her heels was fellow first years Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, MA) and Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA). Zakrzewski crossed in 17th in 30.21 with Guinto right behind in 20th in a time of 32.16 seconds. Also making a name for herself in the spring game was junior Caroline Gilson (Grafton, MA) who finished 6th in the 400m in a time of 66.40.

 

The biggest showing on the night on the track was from O'Malley, who crossed in 1:57.63 in the 600m for a third place finish. Fellow sophomore Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) would grab her own top finish in the race, finishing with a seventh place time of 2:01.31. Sophomore Claudia Symonick (Auburn, MA) put her distance running chops to good work on the day as she had an 8th place finishing time of 6:30.26. Also grabbing an 8th place finish was the Lancers 4x400 relay team, made up of Condon, Zakrzewski, O'Malley and Gilson, with a time of 4:48.52.

 

The Lancers are back in action next Saturday, January 27th, when they travel to Wesleyan for the Wesleyan Indoor Invite.
