Lancers Grab Top Marks at Wesleyan Indoor Invite

Worcester, MA- In just the second meet of 2024, the Worcester State Women's Indoor Track and Field team has set the mark for their season. The team grabbed ten top 10 finishes at the Wesleyan Indoor Invite in Middletown, CT. First year Jadah Stokes (Savannah, GA) would repeat with her top finishes in the weight and shot that has seen her grab MASCAC Rookie of the Week three times this season.

 

Stokes and her throwing unit teammates would continue their strong showing on the day with Stokes grabbing first in the shot put with a mark of 11.80m and fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.63m. Doing single services this meet was senior Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA), sophomore Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA) and first years Gianna Noyes (Uxbridge, MA) and Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA). Moreau and Piccolo would compete in the shot put with Moreau ending the day in 9th after a 10.13m mark, while Piccolo would grab 19th with a measurement of 8.49m. Grau-Moura and Noyes would take their tosses in the weight throw with Noyes wrapping up 13th with a 10.27m as Grau-Moura would finish in 23rd with a 8.12m landing.

 

The jumping quadrant of the field events was equally impressive as first year Alexis Strong (Southington, CT) would land a 4.80m in the long jump for 4th, just ahead of senior Eryca Lopes (Ayer, MA) who would land a 4.58m for 7th. Lopes would grab a top five finish of her own with a 9.51m leap in the triple jump. On the high jump side of the leaps, first year Lauren Condike would reach a mark of 1.47m for a fifth place topping on the day. 

 

Track side would see solid success with sophomore Leah Berg claiming 10th in the mile with a time of 6:14.09 as fellow sophomore Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) would finish in 12th in 400m with a 70.14. Cutting that distance in half was junior Caroline Gilson (Grafton, MA) who sped to a ninth place crossing with a time of 28.67 in the 200m. Teammates Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) and first years Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA) and Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, MA) would also take the spring challenge. Zakrzewski and Condon would cross within a hair of each other, with Zakrzewski claiming 26th with a 30.66 as Condon would come in 27th with a time of 30.83. Wrapping up the 200m specialists was Guinto, who would take home 35th with a time of 32.09. The biggest track success on the day was from the 4x400m team of first year Meg Driscoll (Mansfield, MA), Zakrzewski, O'Malley and Gilson who recorded a 4:45.79 for 6th place. 

 

Worcester State Track and Field returns to action on February 3rd in their final action before the MASCAC Championship, when they head to Plymouth State for the Panther Invite.
