Lancers Nab Three Top Finishes at Panther Invite

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Indoor Track and Field team hit the competition trail for the final time before the square up in the MASCAC Indoor Championships next weekend. Looking to grab some last chance final qualifying marks, the Lancers were set to compete. They would be highlighted by three first place finishes on the day as first years Jadah Stokes (Savannah, GA) and Ciara Adu-Add0 (Worcester, MA) would grab the top spot along with junior Caroline Gilson (Grafton, MA), to spread their success across the event. Worcester would record a total of 51 points at the meet. 

 

Stokes would continue her dominant performance in the shot put, grabbing another first place finish against some stiff DII and DIII competitors. She would mark an 11.61m toss to continue her success, while taking a meet off from her weight throw participation. Joining Stokes in the circle was senior Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA) and sophomore Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA). Moreau would mark a seventh place finish with a 9.78m toss while Piccolo would grab 15th with her 8.93m measurement. The other three illustrious throwers, first years Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA) and Gianna Noyes (Uxbridge, MA), joined by junior Arianna Constant (Leominster, MA), hit the circle for the weight throw. Noyes snagged 13th with a 9.58m throw with Grau-Moura and Constant finishing 18th and 19th, with 8.35m and 8.33m marks. 

 

The Lancers would come home with another first place in the sand pits, as first year Ciara Adu-Addo (Worcester, MA) would land with a 5.30m in the long jump. Measuring not far behind was  fellow first year Alexis Strong (Southington, CT), who would land in third with a 4.89m. Strong would also find success in the 60m, where she would cross the finish line in 8.44 seconds for a strong seventh place in the field of runners. Rounding out the horizontal  jumpers was senior Eryca Lopes, who would land with a 4.60m in the long jump for sixth and 9.63m in the triple jump for seventh. The lone vertical jumper on the day, first year Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA), would set a 1.36m mark in the high jump that would see it stand for a 9th place finish. 

 

The field was not the only place for success as junior Carly Gilson (Grafton, MA) would speed to the top spot in the 400m with a 64.41 second sprint. Teammates sophomores Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) and Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) and first year Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, MA) would also finish with top speed in the event. O'Malley and Zakrzewski would go 6 and 7 in the event with O'Malley clocking a 68.12, with Zakrzewski just millisecond behind with a 68.88. Condon would round out the Lancer field with a 70.20 for the 12th spot. Gilson would again find success on the track, this time in the 200, where she would finish with a time of 29.29 in the 200m for 8th. Joining Gilson in the event again would be Zakrzewski, who would claim 12th with a 29.71, and O'Malley, who would come just ahead with a 29.61 for 11th. First year Meg Driscoll (Mansfield, MA) would also set a blistering pace with a 29.54 for 10th, while fellow first year Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA) would cross in 31.81 for 19th.Rounding out the runners on the day was sophomore Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) who would hit the 800m race with force, coming in 13th with a time of 2:47.60.

 

Worcester State Indoor Track and Field is back in action next Saturday when they head to Smith for the MASCAC Indoor Championships.
