Stokes Doubles in Top Spot, Leads Lancers at MASCAC Championship

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Indoor Track and Field team had a big showing today at Smith College for the MASCAC Championship. Led by first year Jadah Stokes (Savannah, GA), the Lancers grabbed numerous top finishes in the day as the youthful squad made their presence felt.

 

Continual rookie power house, Stokes again claimed the top spot in both the shot put and weight throw at the event. She would toss a 13.90m in the weight while going for 11.48m in the shot put for the top spot in each event. Joining Stokes for points was senior Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA), who launched a 10.27m toss in the shot put for fourth place. Moreau would also place eight in the weight throw with a mark of 8.88m. Sophomore Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA) and first year Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA) would additionally compete in the shot put and weight throw. Piccolo would record a 6th place finish, 9.27m, in the shot put and 11ith, 8.33m, in the weight throw. Grau-Moreau would nab 7th in the shot off a 8.88m throw and 12th in the weight throw with a 7.39m toss.  First year Gianna Noyes (Uxbridge, MA) and junior Arianna Constant (Leominster, MA) would do single duty in the circle, with Noyes claiming 10th on a 8.40m toss, while Constant would claim 7th on a 9.34m measurement. 

 

Finding additional success in the sand pit today was senior Eryca Lopes (Ayer, MA) who measured a 9.53m in the triple jump for fourth place, while also recording a 4.52m, 7th place leap in the long jump for the Lancers. First year Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA) would also hit the mark in her jumps, placing 4th with a height of 1.46m in the high jump. Her jumps were not just impressive in the field events though, as she would cross in 5th place in the 60m hurdles in 10.78 seconds.

 

As has been the staple for the Lancers all season, the track was just as hot with first year Ciara Adu-Addo (Worcester, MA) speeding to a 8.20 second finish in the 60m as junior Carly Gilson (Grafton, MA) went for 400m in a blistering 62.60 seconds for 2nd in the event. First year Meg Driscoll (Mansfield, MA) would sail to a 9th place finish in the 200m with a time of 29.40 as sophomore Leah Berg would go 4x the distance in 2:45.38 for a 7th place crossing in the 800m. Fellow sophomore Bridget O'Malley (Leominster, MA) would record a 1:51.38 for her fourth place crossing in the 600m for Worcester. 

 

Worcester State would send two relay teams out onto the track at the Championship as the 4x200m team made up of Driscoll, first years Lexie Zakrzewski (Taunton, MA) and Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA) and sophomore Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) would claim the third place finish with a 1:59.33. Returning to action in the 4x400m was Condon and Zakrzewski along with Gilson and O'Malley for a second place finish 4:41.35.

 

The Lancers are back in action next Saturday at the Pre-Post Season Invitational as they look for a chance to secure some more qualifying marks for the NCAA DIII Regionals.
