Lancers Take Second at Worcester City Championships

Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, MA) along with freshman teammates Mara Kralian (Grafton, MA), Kristina Lisacki (Woburn, MA) and Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) teamed to run a time of 51.25 to shatter the school record in the 4x100 relay to help the Women's Outdoor Track and Field team kick off its season with a second place finish at the Worcester City Championships hosted by WPI.

The Engineers came in first with 185 points, followed by the Lancers (161 points) and Assumption notched third with 103 points. Fitchburg State (46), Clark (27) and Nichols (8) rounded out the top six finishers.

Along with helping anchor the 4 x 100 meter relays record setting run, Kralian had a monster day as she qualified for the Division III New England meet in four events and the ECAC's in the long jump. Kralian placed second in the long jump (5.05 meters), the triple jump (10.46), the 100 meter dash (12.99) and the 200 (27.13).

Ouellette picked up right where she left off from the indoor season as she took the triple jump title with a leap of 10.46 meters while she placed second in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles with times of 17.60 and 1:13.96, respectively. Ouellettes' jump in the triple jump qualified her for the DIII New England meet.

Freshman Rachael Baker (Mystic, CT) also threw a top finish in the javelin with a threw of 33.56 to stamp her ticket to the DIII Regional's. Classmate Brittany Stoddard (Orange, MA) was right behind Baker as she placed second with a toss of 31.07 meters while she also took third in the shot put (10.04 m)

Rafferty recorded fourth in the long jump (4.54m) while also taking third in the 100 (13.28) and the 200 (28.22). In addition, Lisacki took fourth in the 100 (13.97) and seventh in the 200 (29.63).

Junior Kara Antrim (Rowley, MA) also had an outstanding meet as she placed second in the 800 (2:23.03) and the 1500 (5:19.86). Freshman Maura Withington (Walpole, MA) finished third in the 5,000 (20:45.73) and fourth in the 800 (2:37.05).

First-year Meg Plant (Franklin, MA) took fourth in the 1500 while sophomore Rachael Sullivan (Ipswich, MA) registered fifth in the 5000 (21:41.24) to round out the distance events.

In the field, sophomore Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) chalked up third in the hammer while classmate Jill Rollins (Leicester, MA) finished sixth in the hammer (31.57 m) and eighth in the discus (24.51 m).  Stoddard and sophomore Mel Plant (Franklin, MA) rounded out the field placing seventh (27.14 m) and ninth in the discus (22.10 m), respectively.

The women's indoor track team will compete again next week at the Fitchburg State Invitational on Saturday.

The previous 4 x 100 school record of 52.81 was previously set by Jamara Exilus, Bridget Donague, Kristen Teruo and Krissy Quimby at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in May of 2005.
