Women's Track Eclipses Three School Marks At DIII New England’s

Medford, MA --- Sophomore Mercedes Arnold (Mira Loma, CA) and junior Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, MA) each earned All New England accolades to highlight the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field team at the Division III New England meet this afternoon hosted by Tufts. WSC finished in 15th place with 14 team points.

Arnold had a leap of 5.55 meters for third in the long jump while Ouellette chalked up eighth in the triple jump (11.15 m) as they helped propel WSC at the meet. After Friday evening’s leap, Arnold turned around this afternoon and helped a reset the program standard in the 4x100 relay (49.62) for fifth place which was set last week. Also running legs were classmates Nicole Lemelin (Beverly, MA), Alicia Ryan (Townsend, MA) and Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA).

Sophomore Leah Walczak (Whitinsville, MA) along with first-year teammates Rose Mathieu (Somerville, MA), Natalie Marchi (Northbridge, MA) and Kayle McElroy (Northbridge, MA) broke the school mark in the 4x400 relay (4:07.28) for sixth overall.

Walczak individually notched ninth in the 400 meters (59.03) as she reset her own school record in the event as Arnold placed ninth in the triple jump (11.10m). Freshman Cathy Chude (Marlboro, MA) clocked ninth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.20) to qualify for the ECACs.

Rafferty and Lemelin helped pace the sprinters as they ran a pair of personal best times in the 200. Lemelin registered 10th in the 100 (12.94) and 15th in the 200 (26.39) while Rafferty added 17th in the 100 (12.94) and 22nd in the 200 (26.75). McElroy had solid times as she finished 11th in the 100 meter hurdles (16.36) and 16th in the 400 meter hurdles (68.41) as Ouellette timed 18th in the 100 meter hurdles (16.87).

McElroy also tossed 19th in the javelin (29.39 m) while freshman Kristen Brunelle (Dracut, MA) tied for 16th in the shot put (10.81m). Mathieu capped off the finishers for WSC as she placed 21st in the 100 (13.19) and 20th in the triple jump (10.47 m).

In two weeks the Lancers will compete again at the ECAC Championships.
