Kralian Selected To USTFCCA All-Academic Team

New Orleans, LA --- Sophomore Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) has been named to the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team for her performance in the classroom. Kralian was one of 330 female student athletes from around the country tabbed to the Division III squad.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either the NCAA Division III indoor or outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard.

Among MASCAC institutions Kralian and Westfield State senior standout Kerry Arouca (Hanson, MA) were honored by the USTFCCCA. Regionally, MIT had the most with 9, followed by Williams (8), Amherst (5), Tufts (4), Brandies (3) as WPI, Wellesley and Bates each had two and Wesleyan had one representative.

Kralian, a two-time All-MASCAC Academic team member, is a Business Administration major. Kralian was a standout freshman as she broke or helped break four school records in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. For her efforts, Kralian was awarded with the Worcester State's Freshman Female Athlete Award customarily handed out to the top freshman female performer of the year.

At the beginning of 2010, Kralian picked up where she left off as she eclipsed marks in the 55 meters, the 60 meters and in the long jump before she was injured midway through the season. Before she was sidelined, she landed a leap of 5.47 meters in the long jump as Kralian qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Indoors. In the final performance list of the indoor season, Kralian was ranked 23rd overall.

Kralian made a return to the track in the outdoor season as she played an integral role in helping the squad capture their first ever MASCAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field championship. Kralian was named All-Alliance for a third place finish in the 100.

Under the direction of third year head coach Mat Lemaire, the Lancers also earned their first  MASCAC Indoor Track & Field championship. At the Division III New England Indoors, Worcester State tied for 14th for the third highest state school performance while at the Division III New England Outdoors, the Blue and Gold notched 15th for the second-best state school finish.
