Kralian, Wise, Gonet Lead Lancers at Bryant Invitational

Smithfield, RI --- Junior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) highlighted six athletes who qualified for the Division III New England championships while sophomore Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) stamped her ticket to the ECAC's with seventh place in the 200 meters (26.21) as they helped pace the women's outdoor track & field team at the non-scoring Bryant Invitational.

First-year Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) also impressed with a new school record in the pole vault.

Kralian had three top 10 finishes as Wise followed suit with a pair at a meet that featured 15 teams, Division I competition, MASCAC rival Bridgewater State, Southern Maine and a couple of local community colleges.

Kralian hit the DIII New England mark for fourth in the long jump (5.26m), fifth in the 100 (12.86) and the non-standard time of seventh in the 200 (26.64). Wise also qualified for the DIIIs by placing sixth in the 100 (12.93) before adding a non-standard leap of 14th (4.68m) in the long jump.

After first-year Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) tossed 10th in the shot put (11.51m) as freshman classmates Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) and Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) rounded out the list of Division III New England performances with 14th (16.87) and 16th (16.94), respectively, in the 100 meter hurdles.

Kralian, Wise, Deininger and junior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) all teamed for a first-place time in the 4x100 meter relay (50.43). Rafferty also had a time of ninth in the 100 (13.13) while first-year Alison Hickey (Easton, MA) notched 13th in the 400 (1:02.67).

Gonet broke an eight-year mark in the pole vault set by Kristen Tervo (7-0 ft) in 2003 with a new height of 7-06 (2.28m) for 13th place.

The distance group was propelled by sophomore Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) who was seconds off from the school record with 15th in the 5,000 (19:14.44) before she recorded 41st in the 800 (2:37.01). Second-year Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) was 24th in the 5,000 (20:11.45) and 46th in the 800 (2:38.10).

Rookie Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) placed 43rd in the 800 (2:37.44) while classmates Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) and Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) finished 26th (20:20.26) and 28th (20:51.26), respectively, in the 5,000.

In the field, Holden along with first-year teammates Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and Kristen Wilson (Tewksbury, MA) all tied for eighth in the high jump (1.42m) as Holden also caulked eighth in the triple jump (9.83m).

Sophomore Kristen Brunelle (Dracut, MA) lined up 10th in the discus (29.92m) and 23 rd (9.44m) while Werneth was 17th in the disc (27.85m).

Second-year Rose Matheiu (Somerville, MA) registered 13th in the long jump (4.72m), senior Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) heaved 15th in the hammer (36.93m) and sophomore Kayle McElroy (Rutland, MA) had a final throw of 29.29 meters in the javelin.

The Lancers are back in action next week when they will travel to North Dartmouth, MA for the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational.
