Donohue Helps Women's Outdoor Track Take Home Second At Corsair Classic

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Sophomore Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) clocked second in the 5,000 meters to reset the school record with a time of 18:40.63 and qualify for the ECAC Division III Championships as she helped pace the women's outdoor track and field team to a second place finish at the Corsair Classic.

UMass Dartmouth, who hosted the meet, edged out the Lancers (173) for the top spot (178), while Bridgewater State tallied 120.5 points, followed by Salve Regina (74.5) and Roger Williams (54.5).

Donohue's new mark eclipsed the record that was set by Erica Pierce in 1994 at Rhode Island College (19:13).

Sophomore Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) also qualified for the ECACs with third in the 100 meter dash (12.80) as junior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) was ten seconds behind in fifth to stamp her ticket to the DIII New England Championships.

Freshman Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) placed first in the high jump (1.46m) before adding second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:08.72) while classmate Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) impressed with first place in the triple jump (10.84m), qualifying for the Division III New England Championships, while she also placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (17.38) and tied for fifth in the high jump (1.42 meters).

First-year Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) timed second in the 100 meter hurdles (16.84), sophomore Rose Matheiu (Somerville, MA) notched second in the long jump to qualify for the DIII New England's, freshman Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) cleared second in the pole vault and senior Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) was the runner-up in the hammer with a toss of 37.37 meters.

Gonet's height in the pole vault was six inches higher (8-0) than the school record that she set last week at Bryant (7-06).

Freshman Nicole Hanson (Rehoboth, MA) was also inches away from qualifying for DIII New England's as she placed third in the javelin (31.89m).

The distance group was paced by sophomore Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) who placed fourth in the 800 (2:35.65) and third in the 5,000 (20:00.82) as freshman Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) added sixth in the 800 (2:36.58) and seventh in the 1,500 (5:15.18).

First-year teammates Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) and Jenna Pickard (Peabody, MA) both finished fourth (20:10.60) and fifth (20:47.20) in the 5,000, respectively.

Freshman Alison Hickey (Easton, MA) distinguished herself with third in the 400 (1:02.68) while junior Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) recorded fourth in the 200 (26.79) as Wise was hundreth's of a second off in fifth in the 200 (26.81).

In the field, sophomore Kristen Brunelle (Dracut, MA) placed fifth in the discus (28.16m) and sixth in the shot put (9.52m) and classmate Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) recorded third in the hammer (35.56m).

Next week the Blue and Gold will compete at MIT.
