Strong Field Performances Pace Women’s Outdoor Track at Silfen Invitational

New London, CT --- First-year Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) placed first in the high jump (1.45 meters), while senior Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) and freshman Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) each placed second in the shot put (30.56 meters) and the hammer throw (38.70 meters), respectively, to help lead Lancers to ninth place with 50 points at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.

Using the home track to their advantage, the Camels edged out Fitchburg State (80) for the top spot with 86 points followed by UMass Dartmouth (76) and Rhode Island College (71).

In a warm-up to next weekend's MASCAC Championships, conference rivals Bridgewater State notched sixth with 61 points and Mass Maritime placed 18th with just one point.

Freshman Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) was fourth in the 100 meters (13.72) while sophomore Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) qualified for her third DIII New England Championship event with eighth in the 1,500 (5:08.73).

Second-year Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) also helped propel the distance corps with 10th in the 5,000 (20:24.70) as rookie Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) was 11th in the 1,500 (5:23.30).

Freshman Kristen Wilson (Tewksbury, MA) was sixth in the high jump (1.40m) and seventh in both the 400 meter hurdles (1:15.04) as classmate Amanda Holden (Lunenburg, MA) placed seventh in the high jump (1.40m).

First-year Nicole Hanson (N. Dighton, MA) scored points with fifth in the javelin (26.42m) and teammate Marlene Christensen (Danvers, MA) tallied sixth in the hammer (32.89m).

The 4x100 meter relay squad of Deininger, junior classmates Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA) and Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) along with sophomore Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) took fifth with a time of 54.62.
