Wise Breaks Two Sprint Marks At 49er Classic

Charlotte, NC --- Junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) broke the program standards in the 100 meters and 200 meters to help pace the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team at the non-scoring 49er Invitational.

Wise shattered the 200 mark with a fourth-place time of 24.67 while her 100 time was in 11th overall (12.05). Both times are now the new highs in the latest NCAA Division III Outdoor list and they reset school records that were held by teammate Mara Kralian (N. Grafton, MA).

Kralian's 100 (12.45) was set last season at the ECAC Championships while her winning 200 time of 25.74 happened in 2009 at the MASCAC Championships. The 100 is .32 seconds faster than the next highest time (12.43) and the 200 is exactly one full second better (25.67).

Sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) also distinguished herself with 13th in the 100 meter hurdles (15.00) and 21st in the 100 (12.51). Deininger's 100 meter hurdle time is the highest in the NCAA Outdoor Championship performance list and just 0.15 seconds off the school record.

The Lancers will open their season at Coughlin Field in two weeks at the Worcester City Meet.
