Jasper Selected MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week

MASCAC Weekly Women's Track & Field Release

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worcester State freshman Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has been named MASCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her stellar performance to help lead the Lancers to seventh at the UMass Amherst Minutemen Invitational.

Jasper posted a second-place finish in the javelin with a toss of 39.98 meters (131-02) before she added eighth in the shot put (11.76m/38-07). Her javelin distance was good to stamp her ticket for the Open New England Championships as her shot put distance was a Division III ECAC Championship standard.

Jaspers' tape measure shot in the javelin is also good for the 15th highest distance in the NCAA Division III to date. The top 22 female competitors make the field for the outdoor championships in Claremont, California this season. Jasper's shot put mark also broke a 22-year school record that was set in 1990 by Lancer Hall of Famer and former Division III New England shot put champion Francine LaPierre.

This past indoor season, Jasper impressed in her first-year campaign with All-MASCAC/Alliance honors at the conference championships in the shot put and 200 meters while she ran a leg on the Alliance Champion 4x200 meter relay team that broke the meet record. Jasper would help lead the Blue and Gold to their third-straight MASCAC Indoor Championship.

The very next week at the Division III New England Championships, Jasper competed against a talented pool of student-athletes in the Pentathlon and placed ninth out of 18 competitors – just 60 points away from All-New England honors.

Worcester State will compete next week at Fitchburg State as a warm-up to the MASCAC/Alliance Outdoor Championships at Westfield State on April 28.
