Women's Outdoor Track Remains At Sixth In Latest USTFCCCA Composite Index
Cambridge, MA --- Junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) took home New England titles in the 100 meters (12.15) and 200 meters (24.51) while she helped the 4x100 meter relay team take home first (42.27) as the Worcester State women's track and field team placed fourth with 60 points at the Division III New England Championships this afternoon at MIT.
Williams won the meet with 157 followed by MIT (124) and Tufts (81) while the Lancers total more than doubled up their previous school mark of 26 in seventh which was achieved in 1996.
Wise also eclipsed the previous meet and school mark in the 200 as she is now slotted seventh in the NCAA Division III in both the 100 and the 200. For her efforts Wise was named MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week this past week.
The 4x100 relay team of Wise, senior Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA), sophomore Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) and freshman Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) set a new school and DIII New England standard. The 4x100 relay team is now ranked eighth Division III nationally.
Not to be outdone, the 4x400 meter team of Hodgerney, sophomore Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and first-year teammates Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) and Kim West (Harvard, MA) placed third with a new school-record time of 3:57.72.
Other individuals who earned All Division III New England accolades for placing in the top eight included Deininger who came across the finish line third in the 100 meter hurdles (14.67) to reset her own school record before she registered fifth in the 100 (12.47).
Deininger moved up to 21st in Division III in the 100 meter hurdles rankings.
Hodgerney finished seventh in the 200 meters (25.85) as McMahon added eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (65.00).
In the field, freshman Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) tallied 3,962 points in the heptathlon for third place while she tacked on seventh in the shot put (11.74m/38-6).
Rounding out the top finishers for the Lancers included sophomore Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) who had a toss of 11.83 meters (38-9.75) for a new school record in 6th place.
Jasper would end the heptathlon field of 15 competators by finishing second in the javelin (29.65/97-03), the seventh in the 800 (2:34.64) and eighth in the long jump (4.50m/14-09.25).
Other solid times included Rafferty who placed in 12th in the 100 with a time of 12.19 while Taylor posted ninth 65.02 in the 400 meter hurdles and she tied for 12th in the high jump (1.53m/5-0.25).
Junior Nicki Lemelin (Beverly, MA) finished in 17th place in both the 100 (12.89) and 200 (26.36) as first-year Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) also posted strong sprints with 22nd in the 100 (13.03) and 25th in the 200 (26.53).
Rookie Amanda Caldarone (Attleboro, MA) recorded 14th in the 100 meter hurdles (16.42) and teammate Therese Morss (Rochester, MA) was 25th (18.35).
Freshmen teammates Nicole Hanson (N. Dighton, MA) and Katie Cataldo (Attleboro, MA) both placed in the top 20 in the Javelin. Cataldo finished in 13th with a throw of 35.46 meters (116-04) while Hanson placed in 18th (34.00m/111-06).
Cataldo has two more tries to improve her javelin distance for the NCAAs as she is ranked 20th with her throw from last week's MASCAC Championships.
The 4x800 meter team of senior Meg Plant (Franklin, MA), sophomore Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA), and freshman classmates Jennifer Cardinal (Chicopee, MA) and Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) finished in 18th place with a time of 10:16.13.
Next week, the Lancers will return to Steinbrenner Stadium as select Lancers will compete in the Open New England Championships.
Friday's Release
Cambridge, MA --- Freshman standout Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) is in third place in the heptathlon with 2,428 points to help lead the Worcester State women's track team on the second day of the Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT.
Jasper took first in the 200 meters (27.38), the second-best toss in the shot put (11.17m/36-7), the fifth-highest 100 meter hurdles time (16.36) and she added 12th in the high jump (1.37m/4-6).
First-year Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) just missed on All-New England honors in the long jump as she placed ninth (5.15m/16-10.25) while junior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) was seconds away from breaking her own mark in the 10,000 meters (39:55.15) with a finish of 13th.
Sophomore Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) was right behind Donohue in the 10,000 as she qualified herself for the ECAC Division III Championships in two weeks in 14th (40:10.91).
