Wise, Deininger Shine At NEICAAA Championships

Cambridge, MA --- Junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) shattered her own school marks with third in the 200 meters (24.28) and fifth in the 100 meters (12.04) as propelled the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team to a tie for 21st at the Open New Enlgand Championships this afternoon at MIT.

With her time in the 200, Wise is now third in the NCAA Division III in the event and she remains tied sixth in the 100 with the top DIII time at the meet.

For her efforts this week, Wise was named the MASCAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the 11th time this season.

Sophomore Christy Deininger (Attleboro, MA) was also stellar in the 100 meter hurdles as she timed sixth with a time of 14.61, just 0.02 shy of the school mark she set yesterday in the trials. Deininger's time yesterday is the 21st best time in the most up-to-date DIII rankings.

Second-year Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) also had a heave of 19th in the shot put (11.08m/36-04.25).

Next week select Lancers will compete at the ECAC Division III Championships.

 


Friday's Release


Cambridge, MA --- Sophomore Christy Deininger (Attleboro, MA) and junior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) both made the finals of their respective sprinting events as they helped lead the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team at the second day of the Open New England Championships this afternoon at MIT.

Wise clocked a time of 12.16 for sixth in the 100 meters and 24.75 in the 200 in seventh while Deininger broke her own school mark with a time of 14.58 in the 100 meter hurdles which was good for seventh.

Wise's 100 meter time was the top Division III time and her 200 split was the second-best at the meet while Deinigner's was third.   

Deininger would also add a stellar time of 12.53 in the 100 for 13th place. Sophomore Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) and Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) finished 16th (65.40) and 21st (66.02) in the 400 meter hurdles, respectively.

In the field, freshman Katie Cataldo (Attleboro, MA) heaved throw of 10th in the javelin (38.47m/126-02) and classmate Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) added 19th (36.48m/119-08) in the same event.
