Wise, Donohue Lead Women's Outdoor Track At UMass Lowell Invitational

 

Lowell, MA --- Senior Briana Wise (Worcester, MA/Burncoat) notched fifth in the 100 meters (12.95) and sixth in the 200 (26.66) while classmate Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA) eclipsed a 19-year school record as they both helped pace the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team at the George Davis UMass Lowell Invitational.

The meet featured some of the top competition from several Division II and III schools.

Wise also helped junior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) along with sophomore teammates Liz Bodensieck (Rayham, MA) and Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) to third place in the 4x100 meter relay (50.12).

Deininger and Caldarone finished fourth (15.82) and seventh (16.09), respectively, in the 100 meter hurdles and Deininger clocked seventh in the 100 (13.10).

Hogerney was 10th in both the 100 (13.18) and the 200 (27.25).

In the field, sophomore Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) tossed third in the javelin (126-9/38.64m) as second-year Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) chalked up fifth in the long jump (5.16m/16-11.25).

Third-year Hannah Werneth (N. Yarmouth, ME) had three top-15 distances in the discus (9th - 104-08/31.91m), shot put (11th - 34-04.75/10.48m) and hammer (13th - 114-04/34.86m).

Donohue placed 18th in the 3,000 (10:57.32) to break Erica Pierce's mark of 11:06.20 that was set at Tufts in 1994.

Junior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) added 10th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.53), sophomore Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA) had a distance of 10th in the hammer (121-9/37.11m) and freshman Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) sprinted to 15th in the 400 (1:03.33).

Next week Worcester State competes at UMass Amherst.
