Women's Outdoor Track Slotted 37th In USTFCCCA National Index | Ranked Among Top 10 Regionally 

 

Medford, MA --- Senior Christy Deininger (N. Attleboro, MA) and junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) both had outstanding finishes in their respective events to help pace the Worcester State women's outdoor track and field team to third overall at the Tufts Snowflake Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers tallied 84.70 points right behind the hosting Jumbos (116) and Bates (98.70) while scoring over 20 more than fourth-place Merrimack (57.40).

Jasper continued her strong campaign in the javelin with the lone first-place finish for the Blue and Gold (130-4/39.72 meters) while she added eighth in the long jump (15-1.50/4.61m).

Deininger had the best time in the 100 meter hurdle trials (15.25), but she ended her day in second place (15.08) for the 14th best time in the latest NCAA Division III Outdoor rankings.

For her outstanding efforts over the weekend, Deininger was selected as the MASCAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

The pair also helped propel the runner-up 4x100 meter relay (49.40) that jumped into 15th overall on the national list. The relay included Deininger leading off, junior Brittany Hodgerney (Leicester, MA) second, Jasper third and third-year Liz Bodensieck (Raynham, MA) as the anchor.

Junior Alexandria McMahon (E. Longmeadow, MA) and senior Megan Taylor (Danvers, MA) placed third (1:09.53) and fourth (1:09.62), respectively, in the 400 meter hurdles while Hodgerney sprinted to fifth in the 200 (26.67) to qualify for the Division III New England Championships.

Third-year Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, MA) also added third in the long jump (16-6.50/5.04m) and sophomore Hanna Carson (Natick, MA) notched fifth in the shot put (37-7.75/10.86m) as both also hit Division III New England standards.

Other strong performances on the field included junior Shannon Trybus (Bondsville, MA) and senior Marlene Christenson (Danvers, MA) who were inches off each other in the hammer throw in fourth (121-8/37.08m) and fifth (120-6/36.72m) as third-year Alana Fish (Woburn, MA) finished seventh (117-3/35.73m).

Second-year Francesca Casasanta (Hopkinton, MA) had a leap of fourth in the triple jump (32-6.50/9.92m) and classmate Dalena Le (Worcester, MA/Doherty) registered sixth (32-3/9.81m). Freshman Erin McIntyre (Whitinsville, MA) cleared eighth in the high jump (4-9/1.45m).

Sophomore Maddison Benson (Attleboro, MA) was fifth in the 100 meter hurdles (16.64) followed by Caldarone who took seventh (17.01).

Bodensieck placed 11th in both the 100 (12.98) and 200 (13.07).

Second-year Emily Riehl (Trumbull, CT) timed seventh in the 400 (1:02.03) before putting up a split of 13th in the 200 (27.48). Deininger ended her fine day with 12th in the 100 (13.07) while Hodgerney was 14th in the same event (13.09).
