Jasper Finishes Tenth In Heptathlon After First Day At NCAA Championships

Canton, NY --- After four events, senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) has tallied 2,801 points to rank tenth out of 22 entrants in the heptathlon on the first day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at St Lawrence.

Jasper put up a personal-best time in the 200 meters (25.54) for the third lowest split in the field while she was also sixth in the shot put (35-10/10.92 meters), 12th in the 110 meter hurdles (15.18) and she tied for 18th in the high jump (4-8.75/1.44m)

In the standings, Jasper is 218 points away from senior Erin McCauley (Middleton, WI) of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, who leads the field, while she is 82 points off of eighth place. Just over 100 points separates sixth (2,889) and 11th (2,788).

Tomorrow Jasper takes one last crack at Lancer Hall of Famer Elke Aun's program record (4,849 points) or she could try to establish the best NCAA heptathlon mark when Aun captured the 1996 National Championship (4,765).

Last season Jasper claimed eighth overall (4,714 points) for her first career All-American accolade at the National Championship meet. She is making her fifth appearance and will compete in the open javelin on Saturday for the fourth time in her career.
