Women's Outdoor Track & Field Concludes Regular Season at Jerry Gravel Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University women's outdoor track & field wrapped up its regular season Saturday morning at Westfield State University's Jerry Gravel Invitational, picking up wins in seven events.

Seniors Abigail MacGregor (Salem, N.H.) and Bernice Mensah (Worcester, Mass.) were responsible for three of the victories each on the morning. MacGregor won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and served as the second leg of the winning 4x100-meter relay team, while Mensah won the long jump and triple jump, and was the anchor leg on the same 4x100 relay team.

MacGregor topped the podium in the 100-meter with a sprint of 12.94 seconds, as Worcester State claimed each of the top four spots in the event. Sophomore Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, Mass.) was second at 13.14 seconds, followed by classmate Maureen Grady (Douglas, Mass.) at 13.16 seconds and Mensah at 13.22 seconds in third and fourth respectively. The quartet also comprised the 4x100-meter relay team that won the event in 50.28 seconds. MacGregor's winning time in the 200-meter was 26.62 seconds, while Pellegrini crossed the line in third at 27.02 seconds, followed by fourth-place finisher Mensah at 27.74 seconds.

Mensah lept 5.20 meters to win the long jump on the day and 10.86 meters to win the triple jump. Also in the long jump, Grady placed third at 4.95 meters.

A pair of throwers took first place honors in their respective events Saturday morning, with junior Riley Sanderson (Leominster, Mass.) winning the javelin throw with a toss of 32.10 meters and sophomore Odelia Konadu (Worcester, Mass.) winning the shot put at 11.30 meters. Konadu also finished third in the discus throw at 28.04 meters.

On the track, junior Kasey Clark (Dudley, Mass.) finished second in the 800-meter run at 2:32.79, with senior Kyra Siano (North Attleboro, Mass.) placing third in the 1,500-meter run at 5:14.99. The 4x400-meter relay team, comprised of Heather Turner (Ashland, Mass.), Grace Higgins (Tewksbury, Mass.), Clark, and Erica Hanlon (Shrewsbury, Mass.) also claimed a third place finish with a time of 4:44.43, while Cassidy Lefferts (Palmer, Mass.) finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run at 21:18.71.

Worcester State will return to Westfield on Sunday, May 2 for the MASCAC Championship meet. First events will commence at 10 a.m.
