Herbert Wins Triple Jump, Lancers Second in 4x100 Relay

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Avonia Herbert (Sharon, Mass.) topped the field with a final triple jump of 10.58 meters, and was part of a Worcester State women's track and field team that took second in the women's 4x100 meter relay as the Lancers began their season on Saturday at the Bridgewater State Bears Invitational.

Herbert joined with Maureen Grady (Douglas, Mass.), Bridget Maunsell, and Elena Pellegrini (Ashland, Mass.) to run the 4x100 in 50.92, just behind Merrimack.

Riley Sanderson (Leominster, Mass.) also had a top-three finish for the Lancers, placing third in the women's javelin, with a throw of 36.43 meters.

Grady took fifth place in the women's long jump, with a final jump of 4.79 meters.

Maunsell was 6th in the 200 meter and 11th in the 100-meters, while Herbert was 11th in the 200 with a final time of 28.33. Grady was 17th in the 100, with a time of 13.71.

Heather Turner (Ashland, Mass.) was 20th in the 200 meter and led the squad with a 10th place finish in the 400-meters, with a final time of 1:04.91

Kasey Clark was 19th in the 1500 meter (5:25.23), and Caitlin Conneely (Tewksbury, Mass.) was 13th in the 5,000 Meters.

The Lancers are back in action next Saturday when they head to Dartmouth, Mass. For the Corsair Classic.
