SANDERSON, MOREAU GUIDE WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TO 3rd PLACE FINISH AT MASCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

WORCESTER, Mass., -- Worcester State University Women's Outdoor Track and Field team had two individual first place finishes, as the team placed 3rd overall at the MASCAC Championships held at Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field. Senior Riley Sanderson (Leominster, MA) and junior Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA) had a big day for the throwers, both capturing individual first-place finishes.

Sanderson, for the 3rd time this season, placed 1st overall in the women's javelin. Sanderson's impressive 42.66-meter throw bested the 2nd place finisher by over 15-meters. Worcester State captured all podium spots in Women's Javelin with Arianna Constant (27.16-meters) and Taylor Solimine (27.05-meters) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Sthanisha Moreau finished 1st overall for Women's Shot Put with a best distance of 10.83. Her toss bested Fitchburg's Ephemian Bailey by .15-meters.

The Women's 4x400-meter Relay team of Heather Turner, Bridget Maunsell, Elena Pellegrini and Kasey Clark took 2nd overall with a time of 4:18.61.

Avonia Herbert placed 2nd overall in the Women's Triple Jump with a distance of 10.79-meters. Her finish was just .32-meters behind Westfield's 1st place finisher, Vicky Marin.

Maureen Grady picked up a podium finish in the Women's Long Jump with a distance of 5.15-meters, good for 3rd overall.

Heather Turner nabbed a 3rd place finish in the Women's 400-meter Dash with a time of 1:02.25. While Kasey Clark (2:32.04) picked up 3rd overall in the Women's 800-meter Run.

The Women's 4x100 Meter Relay team of Elena Pellegrini, Maureen Grady, Bridget Maunsell and Avonia Herbert finished 3rd overall with a time of 52.84. The time earned the team 6-points. Pellegrini, Maunsell and Grady also placed in the Women's 100-meter Dash. Pellegrini took 3rd overall with a time of 12.68, while Maunsell (12.81) and Grady (12.97) finished 5th and 6th respectively. Pellegrini (26.50) also finished 4th in the Women's 200-meter Dash.

Other finishes included:

  • Eryca Lopes finished 9th in the Women's Triple Jump with a distance of 9.11-meters.
  • Mackenzie Marshall finished 11th in the women's 1500-meter Run with a time of 5:47.88

Worcester State finished the event in 3rd place with a total of 91 points on the afternoon.

Five Lancers will head to Williams College on Friday, May 6th to compete in the New England DIII Championships: Riley Sanderson will represent Worcester in the Women's Javelin while the relay team of Maureen Grady, Elena Pellegrini, Bridget Maunsell, and Avonia Herbert will represent Worcester in the Women's 4x100.
