Lancers Grab Top Spots at Regis Spring Classic

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Outdoor Track and Field team after an unexpected snow shower put a pause on the Regis Spring Classic last Friday, the Lancers were back in action on Monday and were primed for some top finishes in the afternoon.

 

Speed would be the name of the game for the Lancers all day. First year Alexis Strong (Southington, CT) would go full speed in the 100m, crossing in sixth with a time of 13.30. Fellow first year Ciara Adu-Addo (Worcester, MA) would finish in 10th at 13.47. First years Mia Guinto (West Boylston, MA) and Zoe Callahan (Arlington, MA) along with sophomore Gillian McDonald (Sutton, MA) would finish the group off with a 32nd finish in 15.14, 37th in 17.73 and 39th in 19.33 rounding out the event. The 200m would see Guinto back on the track where she would cross in 29th in a time of 31.38, joined by junior Caroline Gilson (Grafton, MA), who finished in 11th at 28.10, sophomore Erin Condon (East Bridgewater, MA) in 32nd in 31.79 and fellow first year Lexie Zakrzewski in 16th with a time of 28.93. 

 

The middle distances would see  sophomore Bridget O'Malley snag seventh in the 400m with a 67.26 as fellow sophomore Emily Colantuoni (Haverhill, MA) and Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) would take on the 800m. Berg would finish in 6th in a time of 2:46.73 while Colantuoni would grab 10th with a time of 2:59.68. Berg would hit the track again in the 1,500m, snagging 6th in a time of 5:29.03.

 

As jumping started to become the name of the game, first year Lauren Condike (East Longmeadow, MA) would shine, as she sped her way over the hurdles in the 100m for a fifth place finish in a time of 17.60. Condike would find even more leverage in the high jump as she claimed first place with a height of 1.50m.

 

The track group effort would see Adu-Addo, senior Eryca Lopes (Ayer, MA), Strong and Zakrzewski speed to third in 51.44 in the 4x100m relay. Four of these speedsters would hit the jumping pit in the long jump as Adu-Addo would land in second on a 5.30m leap just ahead of Lopes in 10th with a 4.53m and Strong at 11th with a 4.52m. Lopes and Condike would each take additional leaps in the triple jump, with Condike grabbing 6th at 9.52m and Lopes just behind in seventh with a 9.49m. 

 

In the throwing pit first year Jadah Stokes (Savannah, GA) would continue her indoor success, grabbing first with an 11.42m toss as sophomore Ava Piccolo (Tewksbury, MA) snagged eight with a 9.49m, senior Sthanisha Moreau (Taunton, MA) would land in 10th with a 9.29m and first year Luana Grau-Moura (Marlborough, MA) would finish in 15th with an 8.56m but come back even stronger in the Discuss grabbing 9th with a 26.67m ahead of Stokes in 10th with a 26.08m. Piccolo would finish at 15th on a 24.60m mark ahead of Moreau in 19th on a 23.46m and first year Gianna Noyes (Uxbridge, MA) in 21st with a 22.95m.

 

Stokes would add a sixth place finish to ehr day in the Hammer with a distance of 32.14m followed closely by junior Arianna Constant (Leominster, MA) in 9th at 29.86m and Grau-Moura in 10th with 24.73m. Noyes would wrap up the event in 16th with a distance of 17.57m. 

 

Rounding out the day would be the javelin led by Constant in fourth with a distance of 29.78m. Following close on her mark was Piccolo and Condon in 11th and 14th with 24.00m and 21.24m each.

 

Worcester State would end the afternoon with 45 points and a 5th place finish at the Classic and will return to action on Friday when they go to the Silfen Invitational in Connecticut.
