Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 In Weekend Trimatch At Southern Maine

Gorham, ME --- Worcester State dropped a 3-0 setback to unbeaten UMass Dartmouth before they bounced back with a 3-0 win over Southern Maine to go 1-1 in a trimatch with both squads on Saturday afternoon.

The Lancers were propelled by Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) and Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) who combined for 27 kills in both matches while freshman Shawna Strazzere (Billerica, MA) handed out 38 assists.

The Blue and Gold will have four matches in the next week as they will host Bay Path on Tuesday at 6 PM and Newbury on Thursday at the same time. Both matches will be webcasted on www.mascac.tv. WSU closes out the week with a MASCAC trimatch at Mass Maritime as they will take on MCLA at 11 AM and the Buccaneers at 1 o'clock.

 

 

UMass Dartmouth 3, Worcester State 0 --- Box Score

Lebel recorded six kills and seven digs, but the Lancers fell to UMass Dartmouth in three straight sets, 25-11, 27-25 and 25-14. Brown and Strazzere each notched 14 digs apiece as Ledoux registered two aces. Brown would finish with five kills while Strazzere dished out 16 of the squads 18 assists.

Worcester State made nine recieving errors off the serve in the loss. Lebel also hit at a .500 clip for the contest as she was a 6-for-12 in her attack attempts.

 

Worcester State 3, Southern Maine 0 --- Box Score

Junior Joanne Grenier (Orange, MA) tallied a season-best 27 digs to help lead the Blue and Gold a sweep of the Huskies by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-22. Lebel was 9-for-16 with no errors (.562) as Brown collected seven kills. Strazzere tacked on 22 assists with six kills while Grenier had four aces.

Grenier's dig total is the second highest of her career with her best coming in a 30 dig performance in a 3-2 triumph over Salem State last season. Freshman Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) also ended the contest with 15 digs.
