Streaking Volleyball Defeats Mass Maritime and MCLA To Open MASCAC Play

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worcester State University, winners of their last five matches, defeated Mass Maritime, 3-0, and MCLA, 3-1, this afternoon on the road at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center. With the victories, the Lancers improve to 9-7 overall and 2-0 in the MASCAC.

Freshman Meg Brown (Dartmouth, MA) totalled 25 kills, 16 digs and five aces in both the triumph's for the Blue and Gold.

Worcester State will take a break and play again this Thursday at Becker in a 6 PM road game.

 

Worcester State 3, Mass Maritime 0 --- Box Score

The Lancers opened the morning with a solid 3-0 win over the Buccaneers as they swept through with scores of 25-16, 25-11 and 25-9. Leading the way was Brown and junior Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA), who combined for 13 kills. Brown recorded four aces as sophomore Jodi Hallett (Gill, MA) dished out 20 assists.

Hallet and sophomore Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) also added two aces apiece while junior Joanne Grenier (Orange, MA) and O'Brien tallied eight and six digs, respectively.

 

Worcester State 3, MCLA 1 --- Box Score

The Blue and Gold handed the Trailblazers their second loss of the season as they fell to 8-2 overall in the setback. The Lancers dropped their opening matchup 25-17 before WSU won in three consecutive sets 25-19, 25-14 and 25-11.

Brown was the standout as she recorded her sixth double-double with 18 kills and 16 digs while junior Kristen Koles (Billerica, MA) finished with 10 kills.

Hallett and freshman Shawna Strazzere (Billerica, MA) together amassed 31 assists as Grenier put up a team-best 17 digs. O'Brien was also solid as she quitely ended the contest with 15 digs and two aces.

Figella had three blocks in both games which included a solo and a block assist  in the game against Mass Maritime.
