Women's Volleyball Loses Three At Crabtree Classic

Willimantic, CT --- Worcester State was handed a trio of setbacks at the Crabtree Classic as they lost to Emmanuel, 3-0, on Friday night before they were defeated by scores of 3-0 and 3-1 by Eastern Connecticut and the University of New England, respectively.

Freshman Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) led the effort for the Lancers as she was tabbed to the All-Tournament Team with totals of 28 kills (9.33 avg), 33 digs (11 avg) with four block assists and a pair of service aces.

The hosting Warriors would win the Crabtree Classic with a perfect 3-0 record in tournament play. Brown's All-Tournament selection marked the third time that she has nabbed the honor with the accolade coming in the Regis Tournament and the Worcester City Tournament.

The Lancers have three important MASCAC games in the next week. After the Blue and Gold travel to Salem State on Thursday for a 7 PM meeting with the Vikings they will take on Framingham State at 11 AM and Westfield State at 3 o'clock in a trimatch at home on Saturday.

 

Emmanuel 3, Worcester State 0 --- Box Score

The Lancers lost in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-10 and 25-20.

Sophomore Jodi Hallett (Gill, MA) recorded 13 assists and five digs while senior Brittney Ledoux (Nashua, NH) added four kills. Brown also contributed seven kills and six digs as junior Juliana Tyo (Pepperell, MA) had a solo block and a block assist in the setback.

 

Eastern Connecticut 3, Worcester State 0 --- Box Score

Brown propelled the loss as she finished with eight kills and nine digs as the Lancers lost, 25-12, 25-15 and 25-22.

Junior Joanne Grenier (Orange, MA) added a squad-best 18 digs while classmate Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA) recorded seven kills. Hallett and freshman Shawna Strazzere (Billerica, MA) combined for 22 assists as Tyo had two of the squads four block assists. 

 

University of New England 3, Worcester State 1 --- Box Score

The Nor'easters won the first two sets, 25-14 and 25-15, before WSU took the third set 26-24. The University of New England would clinch the match in the fourth set with a score of 25-13.

Junior Kristen Koles (Billerica, MA) tallied a team-best nine kills while Brown tacked on eight kills and a squad-high 11 digs. Strazzere and Grenier put up 10 digs apiece while Strazzere handed out 26 assists to go along with four kills.

Lebel finished with four kills, three solo blocks and one of the team's four block assists.
