Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 At Rhode Island College Trimatch

Providence, RI --- Freshman Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) had a team-best 16 kills and 16 digs and a trio of aces while sophomore Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) added 12 kills as Worcester State lost to Rhode Island College, 3-0, before they rebounded with a 3-0 triumph over Southern Maine yesterday afternoon.

The Lancers are now 13-14 on the season heading into the last week of the regular season. WSU heads to Wentworth on Tuesday evening (7 PM) as they will end the week with three matches against Framingham State (11 AM), Bridgewater State (1 PM) and Mass Maritime (3 PM) on Saturday at the Bridgewater Quad Classic.

 

Rhode Island College 3, Worcester State 0 --- Box Score

RIC defeated the Lancers for the second time this season in three straight sets by scores of 25-11, 25-13 and 25-19. Brown led the effort with nine kills and 11 digs as Lebel added five kills and junior Kristen Koles (Billerica, MA) chipped in with four.

Senior Michelle Maass (Halifax, MA) notched nine digs as freshman Shawna Strazzere (Billerica, MA) set up 19 assists. Lebel had the squads only service ace while junior Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA) tacked on her ninth solo block of the year.

 

 

Worcester State 3, Southern Maine 0 --- Box Score

The Blue and Gold earned their second triumph against the Huskies after they defeated them on September 18. WSU won in straight sets, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-15.

Lebel had a squad high eight kills as Brown recorded seven and Tyo had six. The Worcester State offense was also helped out by outstanding service of the ball as the team had nine aces, three of which came from Brown.

Senior Brittney Ledoux (Nashua, NH) and freshman Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) combined for 15 digs as second-year Jodi Hallett (Gill, MA) dished out 22 assists.
