Women's Volleyball Goes 1-2 At Bridgewater State Quad

Bridgewater, MA --- Worcester State finished off their 2010 regular season slate by going 1-2 at the BSU Halloween Quad Classic this afternoon. The Lancers started things off with a pair of 3-0 setbacks to the hosting Bears and Framingham State before they ended with a 3-0 trumph over Mass Maritime.

Freshman Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) totalled 21 kills and 10 digs while classmate Shawna Strazzere (Billerica, MA) added 36 assists and a pair of service aces.

The Blue and Gold (15-16) get another crack against the Bears as the third seed in the upcoming MASCAC Conference Tournament next Saturday (November 6) when they play  Bridgewater State, the second seed, in the semifinal round at 1 PM. Top seed Westfield State hosts as they take on #4 MCLA at 11 AM. The championship will be at 3 o'clock.

 

Framingham State 3, Worcester State 0 --- Box Score

The Rams got revenge for their loss in MASCAC play as they defeated Worcester State in three closely contested matches, 27-25, 25-20 and 25-19.

Junior Kristen Koles (Billerica, MA) had a team-high eight kills while Brown added seven kills and two aces. Strazzere also set up 21 assists. Freshman Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) put up a squad-best 10 digs in the setback.

 

Bridgewater State 3, Worcester State 0 --- Box Score

Sophomore Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) and junior Juliana Tyo (Pepperell, MA) each notched eight kills in the setback as the Bears were victorious in straight sets, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-17.

Brown was solid with six kills and 10 digs while sophomore Jodi Hallett (Gill, MA) dished out 28 assists.

 

Worcester State 3, Mass Maritime 0 --- Box Score

O'Brien had a season-best five aces to help lead the charge in a sweep of the Mass Maritime as the Buccaneers fell in straight sets, 25-9, 25-8 and 25-11.

Brown finished with eight kills as third-year Katey Figella (Feeding Hills, MA) notched five kills to go along with one ace and a block. Strazzere handed out 15 assists and ended the afternoon with three aces.

Junior Robyn Linscott (Weymouth, MA) distingushed herself with three kills and a trio of aces as she also added a solo block and two block assists.
