Brown Receives Nod as MASCAC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Year

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Freshman standout Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) has been tabbed as this year's Masachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Year after a vote by the leagues seven head coaches on Monday.

Brown, who was also selected to the All-MASCAC first-team, was Worcester State's only representative on the all-conference team.

Brown had a tremendous first-year campaign as an outside hitter for the Lancers. Brown recorded team-bests of 238 kills and 272 digs in 101 games. She also notched eight solo blocks, nine block assists and 25 service aces. At the end of the regular season, Brown was ranked third in the MASCAC in total digs, fifth in both total kills and average kills (2.36) and seventh in average digs (2.69).

Brown's selection marks the third time in the last six years that head coach Bernie Chase, in his seventh season, has had a MASCAC rookie of the year. Current volunteer assistant coach Lauren Saylor earned the honor in 2006 while Angel Clarke also received the accolade in 2008. Last season, Becky Lebel (Millbury, MA) was also the only first-year player on the all-conference team as a second-team honoree.

The Lancers (15-16) are headed to their fourth consecutive MASCAC semifinals on Saturday at top-seed Westfield State. As the third-seed the Blue and Gold will play #2 Bridgewater State in the opening round at 1 PM.
