Women’s Volleyball Scores Key 3-1 Victory Over Salem State

Worcester, MA --- Senior Megan Brown (Dartmouth, MA) finished with a game-best 16 kills to go with five digs as she helped lead Worcester State to a key 3-1 triumph over Salem State in MASCAC women's volleyball action this evening at WPI's Harrington Auditorium.

The Lancers (8-18, 3-3 MASCAC), who earn the fourth seed in next week's conference tournament will play #5 Vikings (5-14, 2-4 MASCAC) again on Wednesday in the quarterfinal round. The winner of that contest will play top-seeded Westfield State on Saturday in the semifinals. 

The series was even at 1-1 with a 25-16 win by WSU and a 25-22 victory by the visitors before the Blue and Gold took the last two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-21.

Junior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) also ended her night with 12 kills for a season total of 330 – just seven off of the single-season record held by former standout Lauren Saylor.

Senior Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) had a match-high 20 digs while sophomore Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) chipped in with 13 digs.

Second-year Gina Battista (W. Springfield, MA) handed out 26 assists and she registered six digs as junior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) had two solo blocks and three block assists.

The Vikings were propelled by freshman Jerika Santiago (Methuen, MA) who had a contest-best 31 assists to go with eight digs defensively.

Senior Jazmin Santos (Lawrence, MA) tallied 10 kills on 15 attempts while sophomore Emily Peay (Lebanon, CT) recorded a squad-high 12 kills on 16 swings. Fourth-year Nicole Roscoe (Lowell, MA) also had a solid outing with five service aces and six digs

In a brief pregame ceremony, Brown and O'Brien were recognized on "Senior Night" for playing in their final regular season home contest.

Worcester State women's volleyball statistics were first recorded starting in the 2003 season.
