Women's Volleyball Posts A Pair Of Victories At Wesleyan Quad

 

Middletown, CT --- Highlighted by the sensational hitting attack of junior Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA) and senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA), Worcester State went 2-1 this past weekend at the Weslyan Quadrangle Invitational.

The Lancers opened the weekend with a 3-0 triumph over Curry on Friday evening before dropping the Saturday morning match to the hosting Cardinals, 3-1. The Blue and Gold rebounded with a 3-0 win over Mitchell in the afternoon.

Worcester State (6-2) will have four matches on the road in the next week starting with their first MASCAC opponent in Mass Maritime on Tuesday at 7 PM.

 

Worcester State 3, Curry 0

Senior Alyssa Jasper, classmate Ali Remigio (Tewksbury, MA) and junior Meghan Deighan helped Worcester State hit a blistering .301 attacking percentage as a team as the trio helped pace the Lancers to a 3-0 win over Curry in the Weslyean Quad Invitational opener.

Sparked by 16 kills in the opening set, the Blue and Gold defeated the Colonels (2-5) in three consecutive sets by scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-10.

Jasper had a game-best 11 kills on 28 attempts for a .357 hitting clip to go with a pair of service aces. Deighan added six kills on eight attempts with one miscue (.626) as Remigio chipped in with three kills and a trifecta of block assists.

Senior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) finished with 32 assists, two digs and a pair of block assists for the Lancers.

WSU also had nine service aces as a team.

 

Wesleyan 3, Worcester State 1

Senior Alyssa Jasper finished with 22 kills, nine digs, two solo blocks and a pair of block assists to help pace Worcester State in a 3-1 setback against Wesleyan on Saturday morning.

The Cardinals (4-1) took the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-17, before the Lancers earned a third game victory at 25-22. Wesleyan, however, took a closely contested fourth, 26-24.

For Jasper, her total kills marked the highest sum thus far this season as her 65 attempts tied an individual program record set by former standout Lauren Saylor against Lasell in 2006.

Senior Amanda Lewis was also in double figures with 44 assists, 12 digs and two aces while junior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) paced a strong defensive effort with a team-best 20 digs to go with five kills.

Junior Meghan Deighan racked up a .364 hitting percentage with 11 kills on 22 attempts with three errors and classmate Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) put up 15 digs.

Senior Ali Remigio did a little bit of everything with six digs, four kills and two aces.

 

 

Worcester State 3, Mitchell 0

Senior Amanda Lewis handed out 16 assists and she registered seven digs defensively as she paced Worcester State to a 3-0 win over Mitchell to close out the Wesleyan Quad Invitational.

The Lancers dispatched the Mariners (2-5) in three straight sets, 25-8, 25-17 and 25-21.

Junior Megan Deighan and senior Alyssa Jasper logged six and five winners each, respectively, while freshman Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, MA) put up 10 digs.

Third-year Kaylee Leduc had a solid all-around contest by notching four of her squads nine service aces and a team-high nine digs.

The Blue and Gold connected for .271 in the final match of the quad with only eight errors as a team.
