Women's Volleyball Defeated In MASCAC Title Game By Framigham State

 

Framingham, MA --- Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) finished with 28 kills and 19 digs as she helped pace second-seeded Worcester State in their run to the MASCAC Tournament championship game this afternoon at Framingham State's campus Athletic Center.

The Lancers defeated #3 Westfield State in the tournament semifinals, 3-1, before falling in the title contest matchup to top-seeded Framingham State, 3-0.

With the win and the loss, the Blue and Gold now sit at 23-9 and will await word of a possible ECAC Division III New England Tournament berth when the seedings are announced on Monday afternoon.

 
 
 

#2 Worcester State 3, #3 Westfield State 1

Sophomore Jamika Townsend (Virginia Beach, VA) had a great all-around game with 14 kills, 11 digs and five aces as she helped propel second-seeded Worcester State to a 3-1 triumph over #3 Westfield State in the semifinals of the MASCAC Women's Volleyball Tournament.

After the Lancers defeated the Owls (13-21) in the opening set, 25-19, Westfield State responded with a 25-17 victory in the second set. The Blue and Gold then came back and posted 25-20 and 25-21 wins in the last two to complete the series.

In the win, Worcester State advanced to their third MASCAC Championship and first since 2011.

Senior Alyssa Jasper added a game-best 18 kills while junior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) was another standout on the stat sheet with 17 digs, eight kills and four assists.

Senior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) dished out 33 assists and added seven digs as junior Meghan Deighan (Lynnfield, MA) pitched in with eight kills.

 
 
 

#1 Framingham State 3, #2 Worcester State 0

Senior Alyssa Jasper recorded her 15th double-double of the campaign with 10 kills and 11 digs as she led second-seeded Worcester State in a 3-0 setback against #1 Framingham State in the MASCAC Tournament Championship.

The Blue and Gold were defeated by the Rams (23-11) in in three consecutive sets, 25-7, 25-16 and 25-22.

Senior Amanda Lewis handed out 13 assists and put up seven digs as Cabral chipped in with 13 digs. Sophomore Jamika Townsend also tallied four kills, four digs and once service ace in the setback.

Framingham State hit .242 in the contest and registered 43 percent of their points on 32 kills.

In the final set, the Lancers trailed as many as 22-16 and forced the issue by making the score 24-22 with a 7-2 rally. But the final point of the match fell for a Lancer attacking error and gave the Rams their second title in the last three years.
