Women's Volleyball Earns ECAC Division III New England Tournament Berth

 

Danbury, CT --- Worcester State has been selected as the third seed and will play at #6 St Joseph (Connecticut) on Wednesday at 7 PM in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.

If the Lancers advance, they will play the winner of the matchup between second-seeded Salve Regina and #7 MCLA on Saturday at top-seeded Western New England. The Golden Bears, who received a first-round bye, take on the winner of the fourth-seeded Endicott and #5 Southern Maine contest.

Following the semifinals in Springfield, which are slated for 11 and 1 PM starts, the championship will be contested at 3:30 PM on Saturday at Western New England.

The Blue and Gold make their fifth appearance in the ECAC Tournament and their first since the 2010 campaign. Worcester State has posted a 23-9 record and were handed a 3-0 setback in the MASCAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday by Framingham State.

Senior Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, MA) leads the club with 471 kills and 4.36 kills per set, which are both among the top 20 nationally and new school records. This past weekend, junior Kaylee Leduc (Swansea, MA) reset the previous program standard for digs in a season and she leads the conference in both total digs (454) and digs per set (4.13).

Senior Amanda Lewis (Poughkeepsie, NY) has handed out the most assists in the league with 907 and junior Jennifer Cabral (Swansea, MA) is sixth in the MASCAC in average digs (3.87) and tied for 14th overall in kills (171).

St Joseph enters the ECAC Tournament with an overall record of 16-7 as they have posted their first winning season in 14 years. The Blue Jays were bounced from the GNAC Tournament quarterfinals by Johnson and Wales on Tuesday, November 4.

Junior Tiffany Mapusaga (Waianae, HI) leads St. Joseph with a GNAC-best 4.14 kills per set and 356 kills to go with the eighth highest hitting percentage in the conference (.214). Mapusaga also tops the squad with 49 aces and 299 digs.

Senior Megan Williams (Lakeville, CT) has dished out a top ten sum in the league with 684 assists while adding 201 digs as classmate Ciara Perez (Manchester, CT) has notched 199 kills which is among the top 20 in the GNAC.

The Blue Jays are 7-2 at home during the 2014 campaign.
