Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with Mass. Maritime and Pine Manor

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Junior Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) combined for 22 kills and 21 digs as Worcester State posted a pair of 3-0 victories over Massachusetts Maritime and Pine Manor in a college volleyball tri-match played Saturday afternoon at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

GAME ONE: WORCESTER STATE 3, MASS. MARITIME 0

Sophomore Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, Mass.) notched 11 kills and four block solos in the Lancers' (8-6, 2-0 MASCAC) 25-9, 25-3, 25-9 opening Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Massachusetts Maritime (2-12, 0-2 MASCAC), while King added 10 kills and eight digs.  Junior Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.) chipped in with eight kills in the opening victory for the Lancers, who received 23 digs from junior Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn.).  Junior Allie Nolan(Melrose, Mass.) collected 31 set assists, six digs and three service aces as well for Worcester State, who received 11 service aces and 10 digs from senior Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.) along with 10 digs from sophomore Katie Gagnon (Hampden, Mass.).

 

GAME TWO: WORCESTER STATE 3, PINE MANOR 0 

King posted a double-double effort of 13 digs and 12 kills in Worcester State's 25-8, 25-10, 25-19 middle match win over Pine Manor (3-7), while freshman Madison Rowland (Swansea, Mass.) added 14 digs and eight kills.  Chapin and sophomore Marissa Proia (Framingham, Mass.) each notched six kills for the Lancers, who received 28 set assists, five digs and four service aces from Gagnon to go with 10 digs from Kangwijaya.  Sophomore Keisha Hadorn (Yokosuka, Japan) collected four kills in the opening setback for the Gators, who received eight set assists, four digs and four kills from senior Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.) as well as 12 digs from sophomore Alexa Leon (El Centro, Calif.).

 

UP NEXT

Worcester State returns to action on Thursday (Sep. 28) when they host MCLA in a 6 p.m. matchup inside Lancer Gymnasium.
