WORCESTER, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's volleyball team wrapped up regular season play on Friday with a pair of 3-0 wins over Fitchburg State and Nichols College in a tri-match hosted by the Lancers. Junior setter Allie Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) broke the Worcester State record for assists in a single season, as she currently has 998.
Prior to the contest, Worcester State University's volleyball team recognized the Lancers' sole senior, Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.). The team presented Kangwijaya and her family with gifts and flowers.

The Lancers posted a 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-14) win over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponent, Fitchburg State, in the first matchup of the day. Worcester State's Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) and Emily Carens (Northborough, Mass.) each tallied 13 kills apiece and held hitting percentages above .500.
The Lancers began with a 6-0 run with Lauren Murphy (Taunton, Mass.) at the service. Worcester State slowly pushed away, and ended the first set with a 6-0 run on kills from King and two service aces from Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, Mass.).
In the second set, Worcester State scored six points before allowing the Falcons one on a kill from Kathryn Carroll (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Following a Fitchburg service ace from Serene Pease (Ashland, Mass.) Worcester State jumped far ahead on an 11-1 run. The Lancers kept their distance and earned a 25-11 set win.
The Blue and Gold jumped ahead to a 10-3 lead before Fitchburg State tightened the gap to four later on a service ace from Amy Coelho (Bellingham, Mass.). Though, Worcester State slowly pushed away, once again, and concluded the match with a set score of 25-14 on a Falcon attack error.
- King and Carens led the Lancers offense with 13 kills each.
- Nolan helped on 34 of the Lancers' 60 points, breaking the school record for assists in a single season. She bested Amanda Lewis who tallied 958 in 2014.
- The Lancers saw a team effort on digs as Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.) notched a team-high nine. King and Nolan tallied eight each while Katie Gagnon (Hampden, Mass.) tallied seven.
- Fitchburg's offense was led by Lauren Riccardi (Tewksbury, Mass.) who had four kills.
- Perry Joubert (Seekonk, Mass.) assisted the offense with seven helpers, while Pease led the defense with 10 digs.
- Worcester State logged a .386 kill percentage, while the Falcons were held to .066.
- Worcester State held a 42-15 kill advantage, and a 40-27 dig margin.
- The Lancers logged 17 service aces, and were led by Kangwijaya who had four.

In the final game of the day, Worcester State defeated Nichols College with set scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-18.
The teams traded points in the first half of the first set, until Worcester State slowly upped the lead. The Lancers then jumped far ahead on a 6-0 run with Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn.) at the service ace. The Blue and Gold kept the gap and completed the set with a 25-16 win.
The Lancers earned a seven point lead, once again with Leavens at the service, to put the score at 12-5 following back-and-forth from each team. The Blue and Gold upped the lead to 10 on a 5-1 run, led by Murphy and Chapin.
Despite the closest set of the evening, Worcester State still managed to gather a 25-18 win as King put the final kill on the night.
- Worcester State's King was the stat leader in kills with 15. Carens picked up eight while Chapin had eight.
- Nolan notched 38 helpers in the win.
- King, Leavens, and Kangwijaya registered 12-11-10 digs, respectively.
- Nichols' offense was ignited by J'Ena Baker (Rockledge, Fla.) who had nine kills in the setback.
- Zoe Chevrette (Wilbraham, Mass.) aided the offense with 15 assists, while Jayla Simmons (Rockledge, Fla.) led the defense with 13 digs.
- Worcester State recorded a .212 team hitting percentage, while Nichols' hitting percentage was -.020.
- The Lancers marked 41 kills, compared to just 17 for the Bison.
UP NEXT
The MASCAC Regular season champions, Worcester State, earned the No. 1 seed in the MASCAC tournament and will host the semifinal and championship rounds of the tournament next Saturday (Nov. 4) inside the Lancer Gymnasium. Times are to be determined.
