Lancers Bested by Anchorwomen
Providence, R.I.—Junior outside hitter Amelia Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Rhiannon Hodovanec (Feeding Hills, Mass.) each recorded double-doubles as the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team bested Worcester State, 3-0, at The Murray Center on Thursday evening.
 
The Lancers fall to 9-15 on the season, while Rhode Island College improves to 10-13. Wrocester State will finish their regular season on Saturday at Framingham State, and can clinch the #1 seed in the MASCAC tournament with a win over the Rams.
 
The Anchorwomen took the first set by six, 25-19, to go up, 1-0, in the match. Worcester State was on the verge of closing out the second set and evening the match with a two-point, 24-22, lead, but an attack error led to a RIC point and a 5-1 run by the hosts to win, 27-25, and build a 2-0 advantage. The two clubs were tied, 18-18, in the third set before RIC went on a 7-3 run to win, 25-21, and claim the shutout.
 
Worcester State senior outside hitter Leelle Tyler (Longmeadow, Mass.) put up a match-high 13 kills. Senior libero Denise Hoxha (Worcester, Mass.) posted 17 digs.
 
Murphy had 10 kills, 13 digs and four service aces, while Hodovanec registered 10 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Aubrey St. Onge (Tilton, N.H.) notched 17 assists and 10 digs, while freshman setter Sydney Green (West Warwick, R.I.) had 13 helpers.

RIC hit .176 (37-15-125), while WSU hit .102 (37-23-137). The Anchorwomen won for the second time vs. Worcester State this fall, having also defeated the Lancers, 3-0, on Sept. 11 at the Wheaton Invitational.
