Volleyball Completes Third Perfect MASCAC Regular Season Since 2017

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – For the third time in the last four seasons, the Worcester State University women's volleyball team have completed their Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season with a perfect 7-0 record. The Lancers accomplished the feat after defeating Framingham State 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. 

Worcester State (10-15) has earned the #1 seed in next week's MASCAC championship tournament, and will host a semifinals game next Thursday night. The Lancers went 7-0 in MASCAC play in both 2017 and 2018, and were conference champions in both of those seasons, earning trips to the NCAA tournament. 

This morning in Framingham, the Lancers secured the victory by scores of 27-25, 25-18 & 25-22. Senior Natalie Gillis (Ashland, Mass.) led the lancers with 18 kills and 15 digs. Senior Leelle Tyler (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished second in kills, ending the day with 12. The Lancers combined for a total of 61 digs and 50 kills.        

Framingham jumped out to an early first set lead but the Lancers answered leading 20-16. The Rams were able to tie the game at 20, the Lancers answered to make it 23-20 but the Rams would again tie the set at 24 all and 25 all before the Lancers would close out the first set victory 27-25.  

The visitors controlled the pace in the second leading by as much as 19-11. A service ace by Sarah Ward (Townsend, Mass.) service ace would end the set 25-18.  

The third set was as close as you can get with neither team leading by more than two points until the very end and saw multiple ties and lead change throughout. The Rams led 19-18 late in the set before Lancers went on a three-point rally to take a 21-19 lead which they would extend to 23-20 before earning the 25-22 win to close the day.   

Angela Colonis (Waterford, Conn.) registered eight kills and added 13 assists and 13 digs for the Lancers, while Ward had a game-best 26 assists and chipped in five digs. 

The Rams (14-15) finish the MASCAC regular season with a 5-2 record and earn the #3 seed in next week's MASCAC Tournament. They will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday evening.
