Lancers Drop Four Set Battle To Regis in Home Opener

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Volleyball team was back in action Tuesday night as they hosted their home opener against non-conference foe Regis College. The Lancers are coming off a three set defeat Saturday to Trinity College and look to get back in the win-column against the Pride, from Regis College.



Final: Worcester State:1  Regis : 3 (19-25,25-23,16-25 ,22-25)



The Lancers and Pride split the first two sets (19-25 and 25-23). The battle was close for the duration of the match as neither team could pull away much. The teams both had 4 kills and had 6  errors in the first. The second set featured the most complete set for the Lancers as they won 25-23 and overcame a deficit entering the final moments. The Pride took the final sets (16-25 and 22-25) respectively, to win 3-1.

 

The Lancers were led by graduate student Camryn Burgio (Quincy,MA)  and first year Beatrice Gamboa- Estrella (Simi Valley,CA), the two MASCAC players of the week honorees from the past week. Senior Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington,MA) and sophomore Cassidy D'Espsoito (Medford,NY) were also key contributors with 4 points each. 

 

The Lancers, who now sit at (3-4, 0-0) return to action Thursday night when they travel up the road for a match against WPI, with the match starting at 7pm. Regis  currently sits at (3-3,0-0) on the season.
