Lancers Pick Up Another Important MASCAC Victory In 5-Set Thriller

Worcester, MA- Coming off a 3-0 sweep of conference rivals Fitchburg State over the weekend, the Worcester State Lancers took a trip to take on Bridgewater State in another conference matchup as they looked to keep themselves perfect in MASCAC play.

The Lancers started off the game slowly and fell behind on the scoreboard after the first set of play, 25-20. Worcester rallied to take the lead 2 sets to 1, winning the games 25-20, and 25-17 respectively. In the fourth game of play, Bridgewater State would not go away on their home court by winning the fourth game 25-19, to send the match to a fifth and final set to decide the outcome.

 

In the fifth set, Lancers came out firing and secured a conference victory with a final score of 15-8. 

 

Sophomore Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford,NY) led Worcester State with 11 kills, while graduate student Camryn Burgio (Quincy,Mass) had a team-leading 30 digs, and junior Angela Colonis (Waterford,CT) along with junior Megan Bardis (Rutland,Mass) were tied for the team lead in assists with 14 apiece.

 

Worcester State improves to (8-11,3-0) and will take a trip to Dean College for a double match Saturday this weekend with the first match set for an 11am non-conference matchup.
