Cadogan Sets School Record In Block Assists In Loss To Keene St.

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (12-13, 5-1 MASCAC) faced off against the Keene St. Owls (11-15, 4-4 LEC) in the second to last game of the regular season. 

 

Senior middle blocker Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington, MA) set the school record in block assists tonight as she recorded two to put her at the top spot at 140. 

 

FINAL:

Lancers 2 (25-18, 25-14 )

Keene St. 3 (25-14, 25-15, 15-12)

 

RECAP:

 

The first set went in Worcesters favor as they won 25-18 in a tightly contested battle. They were down early and rallied to take the lead and the set. 

 

Keene St. answered the Lancers, taking set two 25-14. The Owls were in possession of the lead most of the set and finished strong to tie the matchup at 1-1. 

 

Worcester State rebounded in the third set defeating the Owls 25-14. Keene St. would hang around with the Lancers giving them a good contest, but eventually the deficit was too much to come back from. 

 

In the fourth set, the Owls came back strong defeating the Lancers 25-15 to force a deciding fifth set. Keene St. controlled the set from the start and to finish as they held the momentum and the control throughout.

 

The fifth set proved to be a back and forth battle as both teams were within one point of each other for much of the set. Keene St. won the set 15-12 to take the set and game after a late rally at the end. 

 

First-year Beatrice Gamboa-Estrella (Simi Valley, CA) and sophomore right sider Cassidy D'Esposito (Medford, NY) each had 11 kills. Gamboa-Estrella had 12.5 points, D'Esposito with 12. 

 

Sophomore outside hitter Cassie Millea (Orange, CT) also recorded double digit kills with 10 and 11.5 points. 

 

Junior setter Angela Colonis (Waterford, CT)  finished the night with a game high 22 assists. Graduate student Cameryn Burgio (Quincy, MA), the MASCAC leader in digs, had a game high of 25. 

 

With the loss, the Lancers record drops to (12-14, 5-1 MASCAC) while Keene St. improves to (12-15, 4-4 LEC).

 

The Lancers next game will be Senior Night at Brissette Court Saturday, November 4th at 6 PM when they take on MCLA in a MASCAC playoff seeding battle. The winner of the match looks to grab the #2 seed and bye straight to the semifinals the following Thursday.
