Cadogan's Killer Point Secures #2 Seed in MASCAC Playoffs

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancer (12-14, 5-1 MASCAC) faced off against the MCLA Trailblazers (19-3, 5-1 MASCAC) in the last game of the season and senior night.

 

Seniors Maeve Cadogan (Wilmington, MA), Jess Rancourt (Grafton, MA), and Emily Dardinski (Mansfield, MA) were honored pregame for their night. 

 

 

FINAL:

LANCERS: 3 (25-9, 25-22, 28-26)

MCLA: 0 

 

RECAP:

 

The Lancers convincingly took the first set by a score of 25-9. They got out in front and never looked back as they built a massive lead for MCLA to try and come back from. 

 

The second set was a back-and-forth with MCLA making their presence known at Brissette. With the high intensity set, Worcester pulled away to build a lead of 19-11 that the Trailblazers would not be able to comeback from as they lost the set 25-23. 

 

The final set of the game was toe to toe as the score was 24-24 heading into the final points. A timeout was called by the Lancers to regain composure.

 

The set would continue its back and forth script with Worcester securing the match with a score 28-26, sealing victory on senior night for the team. Cadogan ended the tense battle with a leaping kill to secure the winning point between the two teams on her special night. 

 

Cadogan led the night on the Lancer side with nine points, adding two block assists. First-year Beatrice Gamboa-Estrella (Simi Valley, CA) finished right behind her with 8.5. 

 

Sophomore Cassandra Millea (Orange, CT) had the third most points on the Lancers with eight. 

 

Graduate student Camryn Burgio (Quincy, MA) was the night's dig leader as she finished with 17. 

 

With the win, the Lancers improve to (13-14, 6-1 MASCAC), while MCLA drops to (19-4, 5-2 MASCAC).

 

The next game for Worcester State will be a playoff matchup against an opponent to be named later on Thursday, November 9th at 6 PM for a home matchup.
