Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women’s Volleyball team swept the MASCAC Weekly awards as announced by the conference. First year Beatrice Gamboa-Estrella (Simi Valley, CA) and graduate student Camryn Burgio (North Quincy, MA) were honored in the Lancers 3-1 week.
Gamboa-Estrella was named both the offensive player of the week as we all rookie of the week after averaging eight kills, seven digs with five aces and two block assists for Worcester State. She finished with eight kills, four digs, three aces and two assists in the 3-1 win over Framingham State. Added 12 kills, 14 digs and two block assists in the five-set win over Mitchell and seven kills. an ace and six digs in the 3-1 win over Anna Maria.
Burgio, who is the reigning MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year, took home the defensive player of the week honors averaging 4.25 digs per set, with a total of 68 on the week, with 14 kills and 14 service aces on the week. She finished with 25 digs, six assists and a kill in the 3-1 win over Anna Maria, 18 digs, five aces and nine kills in the 3-1 win over Framingham State and 16 digs, six aces and four kills in the five-set win over Mitchell.
Worcester State returns to action tomorrow in their home opener when they host Regis College at 7pm.
