Lancers Finish Fifth at Western New England Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Worcester State University women's cross country team placed fifth out of 28 teams participating in the Western New England Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 15).

Worcester State's sophomore Mia Rogers (N. Dighton, Mass.) paced the Lancers with a seventh place finish in 19:34. "Mia's training has been intensive and she essentially worked through this meet, as did the entire team," commented head coach Gary Jusseaume.

"Mia's training focus now shifts to the MASCAC Championship meet in two weeks," said Jusseaume.

The Lancers' second finisher was freshman Elisabeth Olson (Wilmington, Mass.) who came in 30th place. "Elisabeth was a tad off her best performance pace today," mentioned Jusseaume. "Though, she will be well rested and ready for MASCACs."

Coming in next for the Lancers was Justine Murdocca (Milford, Mass.) who came in the 33rd slot. "Justine ran an excellent race, especially over the final 1,000 meters," said Jusseaume. "I expect her to run a strong race in two weeks."

Rounding out the scoring for the Lancers was Laura DelleChiaie (Haverhill, Mass.), Emily Bumpus (Bridgewater, Mass.), Katerina Lucier (Portsmouth, R.I.), and Kelsey Bedard (Leominster, Mass.).

The Lancers take a break next weekend as they rest up for the MASCAC Championship meet at Fitchburg State University the following Saturday (Oct. 29).
