Worcester State Women’s Cross-Country Finishes in 5th Place at the MASCAC Championship

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Cross-Country took to the course this afternoon for the MASCAC Championship at Stanley Park. Last year the women finished in the third spot behind Westfield State and Bridgewater St, and this year saw them vying to take the championship behind the legs of first year Nina Fonteix (Elancourt, FR) and senior Erica Hanlon (Shrewsbury, MA), who finished in 10th place last year with a time of 21:15 and a spot on the All-Conference Team. After a tight race from all the runners, The Lancers closed out the MASCAC racing season in fifth place.

The Lancers were led by Fonteix who ran a personal best time of 20:15.78 and finished the race in 14th place. Hanlon, with a time of 21:28.66 and junior Caitlin Conneely (Tewksbury, MA), 21:36.09, rounded out the top 30 runners finishing in 28th and 29th place. The final two runners to cross and contribute to the team score of 131 was first year Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) who crossed with a time of 22:14.23 and first year Emily Colantuoni (Haverhill, MA) with a huge jump in her personal record to 23:14.77. The final Worcester finishers in the 5k race was junior Angela Nigro (Webster, MA) with a time of 24:44.03 and first year Jillian Bolster (Westborough, MA) who crossed with a time of 24:47.13.  

The Worcester State Women's Cross-Country will continue their season when they travel to the NCAA DIII East Championships on November 12th in a bid to qualify for a place in the National Championship.
