Fonteix Leads Lancers at NCAA DIII East Regional

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Cross-Country team traveled to Bowdoin to compete in the NCAA DIII East Regional on a rainy Saturday morning. The Lancers sent four of their runners off up to Maine to race in the blustery conditions to wrap up the season. The Lancers had a dominant showing in the morning with all four runners finishing in the top 220 runners in the New England Region.

First year Nina Fonteix (Elancourt, FR) kept her stellar rookie season going, finishing in 108th place and just seconds off setting another personal best in her last race of the season. Fonteix crossed the finish line in a time of 25:45.38 to be the first Worcester State Lancer on the day. Junior Erica Hanlon (Shrewsbury, MA), Jillian Bolster (Westborough, MA) and Angela Nigro (Webster, MA) ran as a tight pack as the final four runners for the Women. Hanlon crossed in a time of 27:34.82 in 148th to be the second Lancer representative across the line. Bolster and Nigro finished neck and neck with each other in 217th and 218th with times of 31:43.90 and 31:57.17 to close out the season for the Lancers.

Worcester State has concluded their season with nearly every member of the team setting a new personal best time during the season. The team will return to action in another capacity as they move into the Indoor Track Season with the first races set for December.
