Berg Leads Lancers' Women's Cross Country at Jim Sheehan

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women's Cross Country kicked off their season Saturday morning as they headed to the Jim Sheehan Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State. The 5k course kicked off the Lancers Cross Country season and saw them finish in third place in the team competition. The Lancers were led by sophomore Leah Berg (Worcester, MA) who led the pack of Lancers on the course.

Berg was first across the finish line for Worcester State, coming in at a time of 23:40 for 7th place at the invitational. Crossing second for Worcester was fellow sophomore Jillian McMenemy (Westborough, MA), who crossed in 20th for a time of 27:24 while the last sophomore on the course, Emily Colantuoni (Haverhill, MA) was just over a minute behind, crossing in 28:40 for 23rd. The first years also had a strong showing at the meet, as Naomi Soriano (Southbridge, MA) and Gillian McDonald (Sutton, MA) crossed in 24th and 34th respectively. Soriano was just 14 seconds behind Colantuoni with a time of 28:54 while McDonald crossed in a time of 37:07.

The Jim Sheehan Invitational kicked off the competition and training season for the Worcester State Cross Country team as they gear up to compete in late October at the MASCAC Championship. The Lancers are next in action on September 16th at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.
