Asum, Narcisse, Scerra Named To D3football.com All-East Team

 

Minneapolis, MN --- Senior Graham Asum (Marlboro, MA) and junior teammates Bryan Narcisse (Medway, MA) and AJ Scerra (Marlboro, MA) have all collected D3football.com All-East accolades in a vote by regional sports information directors and website staff.

For all three, it marks the first time in their WSU careers that they are honored by the national website. Asum will move on to the national ballot for All-American consideration as the team will be announced on the weekend of the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Worcester State had the most in the NEFC Bogan Division honored on the prestigious squad and the second-most in the 16-team conference.

Asum, who earned first-team accolades as a return specialist, finished his season with a New England record 952 yards and three touchdowns on 30 returns. He also eclipsed the NEFC record with 2,098 career yards to his credit.

As of this past weekend, he leads Division III in kickoff return average (31.7 yards per return) and he is also one of four players in all four divisions of football with a trio of scores to their credit this season.

Asum played on Sunday, December 9y in the prestigious Third-Annual National Bowl Game. As a defensive back and return man, Asum will line-up against talent from Bowl Subdivision and Bowl Championship teams, along with Division II and III competition.

Asum also recieved ECAC Division III North All-Star accolades in addition to Division II/III New England Writers Team honors last month.

Narcisse, a second-team honoree, had a breakout season as a defensive end for the Lancers this season while he also rotated in at defensive tackle. He anchored one of the best pass rush units in New England as he finished the campaign with 18.5 tackles for a loss and 6.5 sacks for 65 yards to go with a pair of forced fumbles.

At his position in the NEFC, Narcisse is third overall in total tackles (67) and solo stops (46). He is currently fourth in New England in total tackles for a loss and lost yardage while his average (1.85) is 15th in the NCAA Division III.

Scerra, who received the nod on the third-team at wide out, finished an outstanding season hauling in a school-record 75 receptions for 958 yards and eight touchdowns.

As of this past week, he is sixth in Division III in total catches while he is also ninth in receptions per game (11.3) and 24th in receiving yards per game (95.8). Scerra also helped All-NEFC senior quarterback Corey Spencer (Malden, MA) rewrite the program standard for pass completions in a season.  

In his three-year career, Scerra has 141 receptions for 1,831 yards and 19 touchdowns. He is only two scores and 20 receptions from being the school's all-time leader in both categories.

The trio have doubled the total amount of D3football.com honorees that Worcester State has had since in the last four seasons as those that have earned laurels include Cliff Oratokhai (CB – 2011), Tyler Russell (LB – 2010) and Steve Mellville (DE – 2008). All three were recognized on the third-team.

The Lancers, under the direction of 30th year head coach Brien Cullen, finished the year at 6-4 and 4-3 in the NEFC Bogan Division for their second-consecutive winning season. The Blue and Gold will depart the NEFC and compete in the MASCAC for the 2013 campaign.
