Six Land On Worcester Area Football All-Star Team

Worcester, MA --- The Worcester Area Football Association has announced the 23rd Annual Steve "Merc" Morris All-Star team as selected by the area Sports Information Directors.

On the First-team included senior AJ Scerra (Marlboro, MA), junior teammates Casey Hippert (Douglas, MA) and Bryan Narcisse (Medway, MA).

Fourth-year classmates Mac Hanlon (Littleton, MA) and Adam Straughn (Rockland, MA) earned nods to the second-team and junior Zack Skerry (Milford, MA) rounded out the selections for the Blue and Gold.

Scerra takes home his third consecutive Worcester Area First-team certificate as the squad's top wide-out. Scerra graduates as the school's all-time leader in catches and receiving scores while he also is second overall in receiving yardage.

As a Second-team All-MASCAC pick, Scerra hauled in 66 receptions for 658 yards and seven touchdowns – totals that were among the top seven in the conference.

Hippert, a First-team All-MASCAC honoree, was a playmaker at the tight-end position for the Lancers. As the only tight end in the top 50 in Division III in receiving yardage per game (105.0) and total receiving yardage (1,050), he recently was named to the D3football.com All-East Second-team.

In addition to grabbing seven scores in the air this season, Hippert also became the first WSU receiver since the 2001 campaign to go over the millennial mark in receiving yardage.

The Worcester Area honor for Narcisse marks his third-straight distinction on the Worcester Area squad. The standout defensive end racked up 16.5 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks, which were both second overall in the MASCAC while he shared the league lead with a trio of fumble recoveries.

Narcisse, who was recognized on the D3football.com All-East Second-team last season, now boosts eye-popping career totals of 48.5 tackles for a loss, 20.5 sacks, four forced miscues and four recoveries.

Hanlon earns an All-Worcester Area selection for the second-consecutive season as the team's top offensive lineman.

He helped the Blue and Gold shatter the school record for passing yardage in a season (3,130) and the Lancers were 12th nationally with a new program mark for average passing yards per game (313.0) which was also second in New England.

Skerry and Straughn were distinguished with Worcester Area honors for the first time in their careers.

Straughn led the team with 85 tackles (64 solo) – including 9.5 for a loss with three sacks and a trio of forced fumbles. With three blocked kicks, Straughn wraps up his time at Worcester State sharing the career lead with six to his credit.

Skerry was the other edge rusher who helped the Lancers finish with the second-most tackles for a loss (76) and sacks (21) defensively in the conference. He ended his junior campaign third on the squad in tackles (58) to go along with 9.5 TFL and four sacks.

The Worcester Area Football Association All-Star Team is named in memory of Steve "Merc" Morris, the longtime Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations and Assumption Hall of Famer. "Merc" was a 1972 graduate of Assumption and a member of the athletics staff for 39 years before passing away in January of 2011.

In addition to being the founder of the Worcester Area Association All-Star program, he was a tireless supporter of collegiate athletics in the Worcester area and had a key role in the lives of thousands of student-athletes.
