Bruso Ties for Medalist Honors At MASCAC Men's Golf Championships

Sutton, MA --- Salem State captured four of the top seven slots this afternoon led by senior Jeff Santora (Millbury, MA) as the Vikings were crowned the 2009-10 MASCAC Men’s Golf Champions at the par 72 Blackstone National Golf Course. Santora tied for medalist honors with Worcester State’s Bob Bruso (Auburn, MA) as they each fired a 74 (+2).

The Vikings won their 11th overall title with a team score of 308, followed by Westfield State (327), Worcester State (337) and MCLA (339). The tournament was restarted this season after a 19 year hiatus. Salem State hoisted the last trophy that was awarded during the 1989-90 season.

The top finishers for the Vikings included senior Nick Antonelli (N. Andover, MA) who came in third (75; +3), classmate James Cimini (Pittsfield, MA) who carded sixth (79; +6 ) while freshman William Connell (Billerica, MA) placed sixth (80; +7). Junior Luke Paradis (Haverhill, MA) rounded out the field for SSC as he finished in 11th (84; +10).

Westfield State was propelled by sophomore Dan Korpita (Southampton, MA) and junior Brett Williamson (Ludlow, MA) who notched fourth (76; +4) and fifth (78; +6), respectively. Freshman Chris Ellis (Charlton, MA) tied for ninth (83; +11) for the Lancers while junior Shane Ortega (Pittsfield, MA) was the highest finisher for MCLA in a tie for seventh (80; +8). Senior Matt Babue (Adams, MA) also tied for ninth for the Trailblazers (83; +11).

Sophomore Ryan Walker (Hudson, MA) came in 15th (89; +17) while senior Mike Leveroni (Arlington, MA) and junior Dan Duclos (Attleboro, MA) tied for 17th (91; +19) for WSC.

The Lancers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Rhode Island College.
