McGeary, Wolfel Named “Athletes to Watch” List By GoLocalWorcester.com

Worcester, MA --- Junior men's soccer captain Alex Wolfel (Farmington, CT) and third-year field hockey standout Lindsey McGeary (Foxboro, MA) have been named to GoLocalWorcester.com's "10 Central Massachusetts Mass College Athletes To Watch This Fall" list by sports editor Joe Parello.

Coming off a major leg injury, Wolfel was named to the All-MASCAC First-Team as a sophomore. Wolfel, led the squad in goals (9) and points (21) while he was instrumental in the team's first conference tournament appearance since 2008 and the squads first ECAC Division III New England Tournament berth since 2007.

Wolfel, who has 28 career points to his credit in two years of play with 12 goals and four helpers, ended the 2010 season third in the MASCAC in markers and points.

Senior DJ Gustafson (Webster, MA) and junior Chris Sanborn (Holden, MA) along with Wolfel were all named team captains by third-year head coach Jason Willis last week as the team began their preseason workouts.

As the field hockey team graduates two of its top point producers from a year ago, first-year head coach Chris Pothier will look for McGeary to build on her total of 10 goals for 20 points a year ago.

McGeary, who netted three of those goals in Little East Conference play, netted a pair – including the game-winning goal in a 4-0 triumph over Eastern Connecticut. She also had a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Elms and the lone tally in the squads 8-1 quarterfinal setback to Mount Holyoke in the ECAC Division III New England Tournament.

McGeary is just four points shy of becoming the 31st Lancer to join the 25-point club.
