  • Worcester State Women's Basketball Receives WBCA Academic Honors
    August 01, 2023
    Worcester, MASS. – The Worcester State Women’s Basketball team received an honorable mention in this years WBCA 2022-23 Academic Top 25 after finishing with a 3.383 team GPA over the academic year. The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women’s basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2022-23 season is the 28th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
  • 150 Student-Athletes Named to MASCAC Winter/Spring MASCAC All-Academic Team

    Westfield, MA — A total of 906 student-athletes have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s 2023 Winter/Spring All-Academic Team that was released earlier today by Commissioner Angela Baumann.
  • Worcester State Nearly Complete Upset over Bears in MASCAC Semifinals

    Worcester, MA-- Top-seeded Bridgewater State University posted an 83-67 victory over #5 Worcester State University in the semifinal round of the 2023 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday night at the Tinsley Center.
  • Lancers Sail Past Vikings, Advancing to MASCAC Semifinal Game

    Worcester, MA – Worcester State took to the road tonight travelling to Salem State to in a #4/#5 seed MASCAC Quarterfinal match. The Lancers came out ready for action winning each of first three quarters to ultimately win the opening round of MASCAC play 80-57 to advance to the semifinal action.
  • Lancers Close Out Regular Season with Tough Battle versus the Rams

    Worcester, MA- In the final regular season game of the Lancers season, Worcester State took a trip to Framingham State to face off against the Rams in their final MASCAC matchup of the year. The fourth seed was on the line for the Lancers as a win would have sealed their seeding and a home matchup versus Salem on Tuesday.
  • Lancers Race Past Trailblazers with Big Win on Senior Night

    Worcester, MA- With just a pair of regular-season games remaining on the Lancer women’s basketball team’s schedule, Worcester State hosted the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Trailblazer this evening. Before the match commenced, the Lancers honored their seniors as they stepped foot on John P. Brissette Court for the last time
  • St. Martin Leads Lancers to Fifth MASCAC Victory

    Worcester, MA- The Lancers returned home and faced off against Fitchburg State attempting to bounce back from their previous loss Wednesday night.  A team leading 18 points by sophomore Abby St. Martin (Putnam, CT) led the Lancers to a resounding victory.
  • Spotlight: Katie Hurynowicz and the Return to "Team"

    For student-athletes in the class of 2024, the last few years have been tough. The pandemic canceled high school graduation, for fall and winter athletes their freshman year seasons were lost altogether. By sophomore year the season came, but progressed in a way that was by no means normal. Finally, now juniors, athletes such as Katie Hurynowicz are getting their chance to shine; and Hurynowicz is most definitely taking advantage of that long-awaited spotlight.

Despite their best efforts, Worcester State wouldn’t be able to pull out the upset despite getting off to a hot start in a true tale of two halves.

    Worcester, MA- The Lancers women’s basketball team had a tough task ahead of them this evening when the 11-4 Framingham State University Rams paid Worcester State a visit. The conference matchup got underway as the second part of a mens/womens Thursday night double header at Brissette Court, and would provide a lopsided night cap. 
  • Lancers with dominant victory over Blazers
    January 21, 2023
    Worcester, Mass. - The Lancers traveled west to North Adams for a MASCAC matchup with the Trailblazers Saturday afternoon, looking to build on their two game win streak. A team-leading 17 points from junior guard Katie Hurynowicz (Tyngsboro, Mass.) helped Worcester State secure a dominant victory over the Trailblazers.

    Worcester, MA- On Wednesday evening the Worcester State Women’s Basketball team was back in action to take on Bridgewater State in their home MASCAC contest opener. The Lancers were defeated by the Bears 83-62.
  • Worcester State Women’s Basketball takes on #15 Amherst in Return of Math Madness
    January 09, 2023
    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women’s basketball team hosted their 13th annual Math Madness game versus #15 Amherst College on Monday afternoon. Worcester State welcomed over 400 students to Brissette Court for an afternoon of exciting basketball and math competition. The Lancers stuck close to Amherst all game, but a last-minute push saw Mammoths pull away to a 72-53 victory.
  • Lancers Fall in Battle With Vikings to Open Conference Play

    Worcester, MA- Wednesday evening, the Worcester State Women’s Basketball team returned to action taking on Salem State in their first MASCAC game of the season. After a back and forth possession battle, the Lancers were defeated by the Vikings 76-72.
  • Lancers Wrap Up Big Island Tournament in Hilo
    December 19, 2022
    Worcester, MA- On Monday evening the Worcester State Women’s Basketball team was back in action in Hawaii to take on Lake Forest in their second match of the Big Island Tournament. The Lancers stayed toe-to-toe, outscoring Lake Forest in the third quarter, but were ultimately defeated by the Foresters 77-68.
  • Lancers Compete in First Game on Hilo Break Trip

    Worcester, MA- On Sunday evening, the Worcester State Women’s Basketball team travelled to Hilo, Hawaii to take on the College of Saint Benedict (CSB) from Minnesota. Worcester State battled to grab their first win in the pacific but could not find an end to their losing streak as they were defeated by the Bennies 64-44.

    Worcester, MA- On Saturday afternoon, the Worcester State Women’s Basketball team went on the road to Trinity (CT), hoping to end their current two-game skid. While the Lancers played strong throughout the game, they could not end its losing streak as they were defeated by the Bantams 76-46.
  • Spotlight: Erin Gallella and the Final Season and What Comes Next?

    Thursday, December 1, Erin Gallella (Tewksbury, Mass.) started her 60th career game for the Women's Basketball team at Worcester State. Since her freshman season back in 2019-2020, Gallella has started all but two games the Lancers have played in her time in Worcester, and has established herself as a standout player in the MASCAC.
  • Lancers Drop Strong Battle to #15 Springfield

    Worcester, MA- The Springfield College Pride made their way into Worcester this evening to take on the Lancer women’s basketball team in the final home game for Worcester State of the calendar year. Springfield, ranked 15th in the nation, came into the heart of the commonwealth on a five-game win streak. The Lancers would do their best to stop the hot Pride in their tracks. 
  • Lancers fall in Overtime Thriller to MIT
    December 01, 2022
    Worcester, MA- Massachusetts Institute of Technology paid Worcester State University a visit tonight for a Thursday-night women’s basketball matchup. The Lancers went 4-3 in November, and came into tonight’s December 1st battle on the heels of a two-game win streak. The Engineers went just 1-4 in November, with their lone win coming against the Lancers’ conference foes Westfield State. 
  • Lancers go Deep for Win over Wellesley

    Worcester, MA - Wellesley College traveled to Worcester the Monday after Thanksgiving break for an out of conference match up with the Lancers. Both teams were coming off of close wins prior to the break and were looking to keep that momentum going into the Monday night showdown.
  • Lancers Strike Quick to Defeat Owls

    Worcester, MA- Before a Thanksgiving feast could be cooked on Thursday, the Worcester State Lancers Women's Basketball team competed against the Keene State Owls in their home opener on John P. Brissette Court. Worcester State captured their third win of the season by a score of 58-44.
  • Lancers Comeback Falls Short Against Cardinals

    Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Women’s Basketball faced their second game at Wesleyan today in the second game of the Wesleyan Tip-off tournament. Last night the Lancers were able to pull away from Rivier University to secure their first win of the weekend.
  • Lancers Nab Win from Rivier

    Worcester, MA- On Saturday evening, the Worcester State Lancers Women's Basketball team competed in the Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. On this night, Worcester State competed against the Rivier University Raiders in the second game on Saturday. Worcester State captured their second win of the season by a score of 73-65.
  • Lancers fall to Pilgrims in Final Seconds
    November 17, 2022
    Worcester, MA - Worcester State Women’s Basketball hosted New England College in their first home matchup of the 2022/23 season Thursday evening at Brissette Court. Senior Guard Erin Gallella’s (Tewksbury, MA)  two free throws in the final second of the game were not enough as the Lancers fell to the Pilgrims in a tight game. 
  • Worcester State Beat Anna Maria in Worcester City Tournament

    Worcester, MA- For a second straight evening, the Worcester State Lancers Women’s Basketball team competed in the Worcester City Tip Off Tournament at WPI. On this night Worcester State competed against the Anna Maria Amcats in the consultation game in the second game of their 2022-23 season. Worcester State captured their first win of the season by a score of 97-49.
  • Lancers Drop Tight Game to Clark to Start the Season

    Worcester, MA- Worcester State Women’s Basketball traveled just down the street to WPI Friday night to play Clark University in the Worcester City Tournament. This was the first game of the season for the Lancers.
